Description
Outside In is a patient-centered, primary care outpatient clinic. Medical Assistants work in a team to serve diverse, homeless, and underserved populations of all ages. Medical Assistants will work with other staff and providers to support patient care including clinical, administrative, mobile clinic, and general duties within the scope of the Medical Assistant practice. Medical Assistants may be scheduled and expected to report to work at the main clinic or various outreach sites.
Lead Duties
- Train new medical assistants and externs
- Assist in workflow development
- Offer operational support to the MA team
Lab Duties
- Run on-site lab at labs without lab technicians
- Act as back-up to lab technician
- Perform and document regular maintenance, cleaning, and sterilization of lab equipment.
- Perform and document controls on lab reagents, log test results, process specimens, and perform other quality assurance/quality control tasks.
- Assist with supply ordering and inventory organization, reviewing inventory logs.
- Ensure cleanliness and organization of the lab.
Medical Assistant Duties
- Obtain and document patient history, vital signs, and other established screening procedures.
- Assist with examinations, procedures, and treatments as directed by the on-site medical provider.
- Prepare and administer medications, injections, and immunizations as ordered by the provider.
- Maintain the on-site lab and coordinate with Lab Coordinator to maintain equipment.
- Treat all patients with compassion and empathy.
- Perform basic administrative medical assisting functions.
- Act as the SuperUser for the Vaccines For Children program and maintains ALERTIIS records.
- Communicate inventory and equipment needs to the SBHC Manager or Lab Services Supervisor.
- Schedule and coordinate patient appointments as well as monitor provider schedules.
Qualifications
Knowledge
- Knowledge of infection control principles and practices.
- Knowledge of HIPAA laws and patient rights.
Skills
- Able to work with people from diverse ethnic, cultural, socioeconomic and sexual preference backgrounds.
- Excellent communication skills
- Willingness and ability to learn quickly and adapt to a variety of situations
- Able to work both independently and as a member of a primary care team
- Experience training and coaching others in their job roles.
Education and Experience
- Proof of COVID-19 vaccination status or approved medical or religious exception on file is required.
- Must have completed a Medical Assisting program with an externship or 2 years of experience in a medical office setting as a Medical Assistant within the last 5 years.
- Certification must be with one of the following: AAMA or CCMA or NCCT.
- Must have a valid Healthcare Provider CPR card.
- Prior experience using an Electronic Health Record is preferred.
- Bilingual English/Spanish preferred

Working Conditions
This job is located in a standard medical office environment. Ability to travel is needed to support other agency clinics and teams. Ability to move and lift medical equipment weighing up to 20 pounds and aid patients in positioning on exam tables and chairs.
Physical Requirements
This job requires operating phones, computers and other office equipment. Communicating is required on a regular basis. Moving inside the building to other offices and program delivery spaces as well as moving to surrounding sites is expected. Sporadically moves boxes and/or items weighing up to 20 pounds
Salary : $26 - $29
