Outten & Golden LLP is seeking an Economist to support the Firm’s class action litigation practice and in other contexts by producing value out of data—focused primarily on economic and statistical analysis, programming, and data management for employment litigation, employment investigations, and our fast-growing digital-discrimination and AI docket. The person in this role will report to the Principal Economist and Director of Data Analytics and is expected to be physically present in the Firm’s New York, San Francisco, or Washington, DC office at least two days per week.

Responsibilities:

Analyzing data received in litigation and working with expert witnesses to present that evidence, including drafting data analytics expert reports; developing and implementing econometric and statistical analysis; and creating visual aids to be included in expert reports.
- Assisting with exposure analyses and mediations in a wide variety of cases; creating damages calculations to support settlement negotiations; and supporting attorneys on litigation case teams regarding data analytics (including, e.g., assisting in data management, report drafting, and other project support roles).
- Assisting in the development of innovative analytical tools and dashboards to support the Firm by monitoring market trends across various subject areas; leading new case development activities by collaborating with attorneys to identify evidence and insights.
- Communicating with outside vendors to identify, evaluate, and implement analytical and data solutions that align with the Firm's needs and enhance its capabilities in data-driven litigation support.
- Providing mentorship to Data Analysts and Data Scientists; leading efforts to build institutional knowledge by designing and delivering technical training programs for the Firm, ensuring that attorneys and staff understand and effectively utilize data analytics tools and methodologies; and staying abreast of new technologies, trends, and changes impacting litigation data analysis.
- Demonstrating a proactive approach to data science solution identification; identifying unmet business requirements; communicating opportunities and suggested solutions; and implementing identified data analytics solutions.
Qualifications:
The successful candidate will have a combination of employment, educational, and life experience that demonstrates the qualities and skills below:

Education and Experience: You have a PhD degree in Economics and a minimum of 5 years’ experience working in an economist and/or data-science role (preferably within a law practice, economic consulting firm, or other professional-services organization). You have an advanced knowledge of data reporting and analytics tools and how best to use them to extract data from enterprise-level data systems; good analytical and problem-solving abilities; experience with digital transformation and leading innovation; and an ability to break down complex business problems, define a solution, and implement advanced quantitative methods. You are skilled in working with large and complex datasets and familiarity with econometric tools and techniques, as well as statistical reasoning. Familiarity with advanced Excel, SQL, Python, Power BI, Data Scraping, and/or SharePoint a plus.

Compensation: An attractive compensation package (tailored to experience), with a target base compensation range of $170,000 to $200,000 per year (exempt). Outten & Golden also offers our employees a robust benefits package including healthcare benefits.
