What are the responsibilities and job description for the Referee position at Overtime Athletics?
The Jr. NBA of Lexington Youth Basketball League is seeking enthusiastic and dedicated referees to officiate basketball games for boys and girls ages 5 to 10. Our league, powered by the expertise of the NBA and WNBA, focuses on teaching young athletes basketball fundamentals in a fun, structured, and safe environment. As a referee, you will play a crucial role in maintaining the integrity of the game, ensuring fair play, and promoting sportsmanship.
Key Responsibilities:
- Officiate youth basketball games, ensuring adherence to league rules and regulations.
- Provide clear and effective communication with players, coaches, and spectators during games.
- Make quick, fair, and accurate calls based on gameplay.
- Foster a positive environment that promotes good sportsmanship, teamwork, and respect among players and coaches.
- Maintain control of the game while addressing any disputes or conflicts in a professional manner.
- Assist with pre-game duties, including reviewing game rules and ensuring the court is set up appropriately.
- Report game results and any incidents or rule violations to league officials after each game.
Qualifications:
- Experience: Prior experience officiating basketball games is preferred, but we welcome candidates with a strong understanding of the game. Training will be available for those new to refereeing.
- Knowledge: Familiarity with youth basketball rules and regulations, with a focus on ensuring a fun and educational experience for young athletes.
- Skills: Excellent communication, decision-making, and conflict-resolution skills. Must be able to maintain composure in a fast-paced environment.
- Physical Requirements: Ability to move up and down the court quickly and stay active throughout the game.
- Availability: Must be available to officiate games on Thursdays, as well as attend training sessions before the season begins.
