What are the responsibilities and job description for the Youth After School Sports instructor position at Overtime Athletics?
OTA Chicagoland is looking for enthusiastic, sports-loving part time people who love working with kids to join our team and teach kids to play sports and have fun after school lets out. First and foremost--you HAVE to be available to work after-school hours. The very best candidates love kids first, and love sports second, and will have experience coaching or teaching kids.
- Having familiarity or experience playing or coaching sports like flag football, basketball, soccer, pickleball and other playground favorites is GREATLY preferred
- experience working with students across various age groups is a huge plus.
Duties:
- - Develop simple outlines for each after school sports session you present
- Instruct kids from K thru 8th grade on various basic rules & skills & drills needed in various sports
- Keep students engaged and energized and encouraged as you teach them to play sports more effectively, and having a lot of fun at it, after school
Punctuality--must arrive 15 minutes prior to program start, and remain until 15 minutes after program end
Professionalism
- wear the OTA Coach's shirt and whistle, and have a neat appearance
- show respect to administration, teachers and students alike,
- be fully prepared for every session before you walk onto the playing surface
- check-ins by phone a few hours before every scheduled program
- create a positive and engaging sports-learning environment to help kids play the sports more skillfully
- Monitor student progress and adjust teaching methods accordingly
Skills:
- A general proficiency to learn and teach a variety of sports to kids
--A knack for relating to kids in various age groups (Elementary, Middle, Junior High)
- Strong communication skills to effectively convey rules and skills drills needed to more competently play a sport they may not have ever played before
- Ability to absorb training on a variety of sports, and OTA's approach and values relating to sports enrichment for
Kids
- Ability to adapt teaching techniques to meet all the kids EXACTLY "where they are
- Ability to set the rules and enforce them with sometimes distracted kids, being firm, but fun
