What are the responsibilities and job description for the Dining Room Host/Hostess position at Overton Hotel and Conference Center?
Accurately collects payments and makes change to close out guest checks totaling food and beverage purchases in a friendly and courteous manner. Host seats guests at tables in order of arrival. He or she is responsible for maintaining and running the sundries market.
The incumbent is authorized to take reasonable action necessary to carry out assigned duties and responsibilities, provided such action is consistent with position guidelines as outlined below or though the exercise of sound, reasonable judgment and initiative in the performance of job responsibilities.
Position guidelines include, but are not limited to, established company and department policies and procedures and all supervisory directives.
Summary of essential job functions
1. Receives and visually inspects guest checks for any inaccuracies, then closes the check to the proper method of payment
2. Ascertains guest satisfaction, and in the event of dissatisfaction, tactfully negotiates accommodation
3. Complies with accounting guidelines regarding receipt of payments, check total certification, tip disbursement, cash drawer, and house bank management
4. Balances house bank at the end of the shift
5. Receives all guests entering restaurant, and seats them in appropriate server’s section
6. Perform any general cleaning tasks using standard hotel cleaning products as assigned by supervisor to adhere with health standards
7. Sundries Market display cases are attractively set and maintained throughout the day.
8. All inventories in the sundries market are to be rotated daily and checked for expiration dates.
9. Personal recommendations are made with every coffee order.
10. Guests are offered carriers, lids and appropriate accompaniments with all orders.
11. Must perform all other duties as assigned.
Educational/Experience Requirements
1. High school diploma preferred
2. Prior hospitality and cashiering experience preferred
Abilities Required
1. Basic math skills necessary to operate a cash register, make change, total guest checks, count total bank, prepare cash drops, total all other charges, and understand portion sizes as relating to pricing
2. Ability to effectively deal with and resolve conflict situations, such as inaccurate check total
3. Ability to read and speak English sufficiently enough to understand menus, special promotions, and communicate with guests
4. Ability to operate a keyboard and a POS system
5. Ability to sit or stand, and work continually in a confined space
