The Opportunity: Data Center Commissioning Manager – Leesburg, VA
We are seeking an experienced and detail-oriented Data Center Commissioning Manager to support a high-profile mission-critical project in Leesburg, Virginia. This key role will oversee the commissioning and quality assurance of Mechanical, Electrical, and Plumbing (MEP) systems to ensure seamless integration, system reliability, and successful project delivery.
What You’ll Do:
Commissioning & Technical Oversight
- Lead the review of design drawings, submittals, and RFIs for accuracy and constructability.
- Coordinate and manage all MEP systems throughout construction phases.
- Develop and implement commissioning plans for comprehensive system testing and validation.
- Manage third-party commissioning agents, consultants, and equipment vendors.
- Oversee functional performance testing, integrated systems testing, and final documentation.
Business Processes
- Report to the CO I Regional Commissioning Lead.
- Maintain and enhance commissioning standards and best practices.
- Manage contracted commissioning agents for regional projects.
- Conduct site inspections to monitor QA/QC and commissioning activities.
- Drive project commissioning scope, schedule, and execution.
Communication & Reporting
- Monitor and report on construction progress, QA/QC, commissioning milestones, and KPIs.
- Coordinate vendor project managers and implement lessons learned.
- Collaborate with clients and partners to align scope, schedule, and budget.
- Attend OAC (Owner/Architect/Contractor) and project meetings as needed.
- Provide consistent progress updates on commissioning activities.
Accountability
- Own the commissioning scope and schedule across CO I projects.
- Operate independently to drive successful execution and compliance.
- Provide routine reporting and updates to leadership.
Strategy & Development
- Align project delivery strategy with CO I roadmap.
- Continuously refine and develop commissioning procedures.
- Contribute to long-term planning and implementation strategies.
Vendor Management
- Manage vendor performance through scorecard-driven oversight.
- Support preparation of RFPs, PERs, and other project documentation.
Qualifications
Required Skills & Experience
- Proven experience in Data Center commissioning, construction, operations, or maintenance
- Deep understanding of critical infrastructure systems: cooling systems, chill water, UPS, switchgear, generators
- Strong background in QA/QC, issue resolution, and technical documentation
- Ability to develop detailed commissioning scripts and procedures
- Technical degree (e.g., B.Eng., BSEE, or Associate in Engineering Technology) or equivalent field experience
- Strong project management and stakeholder coordination skills
- Proficiency in MS Office Suite, Visio, Project, and Teams
- Excellent verbal and written communication in English
Preferred Qualifications
- Commissioning certification
- OSHA 10 (or higher)
- NFPA-70E training
- PMP certification
