The Opportunity
We are seeking a highly motivated and detail-oriented Commissioning and Start Up Engineer with an electrical state license to join our team. In this critical role, you will be responsible for ensuring the quality and compliance of our data center construction and operations. You will play a key role in identifying and mitigating risks, ensuring adherence to industry standards and company procedures.
Responsibilities:
- Conduct inspections of data center construction projects, ensuring compliance with blueprints, specifications, and industry standards.
- Perform quality control testing on data center equipment and infrastructure, including power, cooling, and fire suppression systems.
- Identify and document non-conformance, and collaborate with the construction team to implement corrective actions.
- Participate in pre-commissioning and commissioning activities to ensure all systems function properly.
- Execute testing and commissioning activities in accordance with the designated site specifications. Contribute to or oversee the creation of comprehensive testing and commissioning documentation
- Maintain accurate and detailed documentation of inspections, tests, and findings.
- Collaborate with engineers, project managers, and stakeholders for quality assurance throughout the data center lifecycle.
- Facilitate the transition of each system from construction, implement LOTO protocols and furnish additional expertise and technical support to enhance the commissioning process
- Stay updated on industry best practices and quality standards for data center construction and operations.
- May contribute to the development and implementation of data center quality control programs.
Qualifications:
- A valid state electrical license is preferred, but candidates actively pursuing licensure with at least 8,000 hours of documented experience will also be considered
- Minimum 4 years of experience in Commercial Construction (Data Center preferred), with a focus on Commissioning and Start Ups (CSU) and Quality Assurance (QA)
- Extensive experience conducting data center inspection procedures, including verifying electrical installations, ensuring compliance with industry standards, and identifying potential issues before system activation
- Proficient in quality control testing methods, such as load bank testing, power distribution verification, and grounding system assessments, to ensure optimal performance and reliability of critical infrastructure
- Load Banking knowledge is a must
- Experience with UPS/PDU systems or sub-stations
- Proficient in using tablet devices (e.g., iPad) for daily work tasks, including email, document creation/editing, and utilizing industry-specific software programs
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality
- Effective communication and interpersonal skills to work with various stakeholders
- Valid driver's license may be required
- Prior experience with CMMS is a plus
- Certifications in the electrical space as well as data center design or operations (e.g., CDCP, NFPA 70e, OSHA 10/30) are a plus. CPR/First Aid a plus
