POSITION DESCRIPTION
Position Title: Middle School Counselor/Social Worker
Reports to: Building Principal
Terms of Employment: School year as defined in the written agreement between the Ovid-Elsie Board of Education and the Education Association
Compensation: commensurate with degree and experience as established by the most recent collective bargaining agreement; comprehensive benefits package
Qualifications:
- Valid State of Michigan school counselor license (SCL) or a Michigan Teaching Certificate with school counselor (NT) endorsement
- Master’s Degree in Social Work, will be considered
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Guide and provide services, supports and interventions to identified students individually, in small groups and within classrooms, based on need;
- Collaborate with school-based and district-level teams to develop systems and identify student needs, set goals, plan evidence based interventions, provide services, and monitor progress;
- Assist the school(s), community and District in planning programs that alleviate situations that may interfere with the learning process of students;
- Assist in facilitating a Restorative Justice program;
- Support district and school-wide Multi-Tiered Systems of Support (MTSS);
- Communicate with students, staff and parents/guardians, as necessary, and provide support and learning opportunities;
- Collaborate with external agencies to support student needs and connect families with services;
- Provide student behavioral support, social-emotional support, mental health support, and well-being services;
- Vocational, college and career-pathway planning;
- Maintain all required documentation;
- Follow all legal and ethical requirements and guidelines while maintaining the highest level of confidentiality;
- Other reasonable duties as assigned.
