DUTIES:
Conducts field contacts at varied days and times with home visits, employment visits, and other procedures for persons placed on probation, home detention, and electronic monitoring
programs.
Administers alcohol and drug testing and reports participant programs toward complete terms of probation, home detention, and electronic monitoring, including administering sobriety tests and operating a breathalyzer test apparatus.
Assists clients and the public, including answering business or emergency telephone, giving detailed explanations of complaints or legal procedures to victims/witnesses/offenders, comforting emotionally distraught persons and referring persons to social service agencies. Notifies probation officers and supervisors of program violations and/or inability to contact clients, taking appropriate actions to locate them.
Maintains department issued equipment, uniforms, and vehicles, including inspecting condition of assigned vehicles/equipment and compiling and submitting reports of mileage/fuel usage.
Performs field officer duties related to community corrections in accordance with rules set by Indiana Department of Corrections and policies and procedures of the Circuit Court.
Performs various clerical duties, including serving as database management, maintaining filing systems, and writing and proofreading various materials in compliance with department regulations/policies.
Performs related and/or special duties as assigned.
I. JOB REQUIREMENTS AND DIFFICULTY OF WORK:
High school diploma or GED.
Must be at least 21 years of age.
Ability to meet all Department hiring requirements, including passage of a drug test.
Practical knowledge of and ability to make practical application of local, state, and federal regulations, Indiana statues, standard policies and procedures, and legal terminology of the criminal justice system.
Practical knowledge of standard policies and practices of Department and the judiciary with ability to accurately complete required legal reports, meet legal requirements, and apply and adapt procedures as cases demand.
Practical knowledge of and ability to make practical application of current developments,
theories, and trends in behavior and supervision of clients.
Working knowledge of Department blood borne pathogen exposure reporting procedures, and ability to utilize universal health precautions to prevent infection from blood borne pathogens.
Working knowledge of basic filing systems and ability to create and maintain accurate and complete department files and records.
Working knowledge of standard English grammar, spelling, and punctuation, and ability to prepare written reports within reports within established Department deadlines.
Working knowledge of community geography and police jurisdiction/boundaries.
Working knowledge of and ability to effectively apply evidence collection/preservation techniques.
Ability to properly operate standard equipment, including computers, calculators, breathalyzer's, vehicles, and other equipment as needed.
Ability to properly operate and maintain all assigned vehicle's, equipment, and uniforms.
Ability to deal swiftly, rationally, and decisively with potentially violent individuals in precarious situations, and take authoritative action applying appropriate discretion and common sense.
Ability to perform essential functions of the positions without posing a direct threat to the health and safety of self and other individuals in the workplace.
Ability to effectively communicate orally and in writing with co-workers, other count departments, attorney's, governmental and judicial agencies, public and private agencies, clients and their families, and the public including being sensitive to professional ethics gender, cultural diversities and disabilities.
Ability to competently serve the public with diplomacy and respect, including occasional encounters with irate/hostile persons.

Ability to work alone with minimum supervision and with others in a team environment and work rapidly for long periods on serval tasks at the same time, often under time pressure.
Ability to plan/layout assigned work projects, apply knowledge of people and locations, and count/perform arithmetic calculations.
Ability to read/interpret detailed prints, sketches, layouts, specifications, and maps, and compare or observe similarities and differences between data, people or things.
Ability to occasionally work irregular hours, weekends, and evenings; travel out of town, but not overnight, to find clients; and respond to emergencies on a 24-hour basis.
Possession of a valid driver's license and demonstrated safe driving record.
II: RESPONSIBILITY:
Incumbent performs duties according to established department policies and procedures, making decisions and taking authoritative action in response to situational demands. Assignments are guided by definite objectives using a variety of methods or procedures. Errors in decisions or work may be detected or prevented through supervisory review, and undetached errors may in loss of time to correct error.
III: PERSONAL WORK RELATIONSHIPS:
Incumbent performs duties in the field involving sitting/walking at will, standing/walking for long periods, running fast for short periods, driving, walking/running/carrying equipment up/down flight of stairs, lifting/carrying/pushing/pulling objects weighting over 50 pounds, handling/grasping objects crouching/kneeling/bending/reaching, close/far vision, color/depth perception, haring sounds/communication, and speaking clearly. Incumbent may be exposed to extreme temperatures, walking on uneven terrain, working in wet/icy surroundings, climbing over obstacles, and working with violent/irate individuals. Universal health/safety precautions must be followed at all times to avoid injury to self and others, including wearing protective clothing and equipment.
Incumbent occasionally works irregular hours, weekends, and evenings; travel out of town, but not overnight, to find clients; and responds to emergencies on a 24 basis.
