General Description

Maintains and updates the land ownership and applicable library layer of the Geographic Information Systems (GIS). Maintains and updates the cadastral database and processes parcel splits. Position is the point of contact for public mapping requests and maintains and updates 911 and MSAG database. Assists all department positions.

Essential Job Functions

Primary Duties include, but are not limited to :

  • Updating of mapping files to ensure that splits or changes to the plats of the county are done correctly
  • Interpretation of surveys and legal descriptions to locate properties in GIS mapping system, ensure there are no errors in legal descriptions
  • Assign new property numbers and addresses as needed
  • Platting of property to obtain a visual effect that includes distances and directions of the property lines of the parcel.
  • Verify accuracy of the transfer books, find solutions to correct inaccuracies
  • Assign new mapping numbers as required
  • Resolve cadastral issues using all records available in Auditor’s, Treasurer’s, and Recorder’s office
  • Process parcel splits by reviewing surveys before submission to Planning and Zoning Department
  • Assist public with mapping requests and searches
  • Research and resolve transfer issues in support of Auditor’s office
  • Maintaining the 911 database system Update and Maintain Ordinance book and index

Assists with the following :

  • Update and Maintain the County vehicle titles and index
  • Transfer property via deed, land contract, court order, and affidavits
  • File property exemptions
  • Apply homestead and mortgage deductions to specific parcels
  • Assistance with the public, via in person or telephone
  • Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Exceptional computer skills
  • Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.
  • Knowledge of GIS technology
  • Skilled in COGO coordinate geometry and cartography
  • Organizational and management skills
  • Basic working knowledge of county government operations and political structure
  • Ability to read and compare figures and written info carefully and accurately; ability to add subtract, multiply and divide
  • Basic understanding of the County’s Zoning and Subdivision Control Ordinances.
  • Ability to simultaneously manage two or more tasks at any given time
  • A capacity and desire to interact with the public.
  • Ability to work overtime when necessary
  • Skilled in mapping principles and coordinate geometry

    Must be able to use general office equipment

    ESRI ArcGIS 10.5.1

  • Skilled in COGO coordinate geometry and cartography
  • Organizational and management skills
  • Basic working knowledge of county government operations and political structure
  • Ability to read and compare figures and written info carefully and accurately; ability to add subtract, multiply and divide
  • Basic understanding of the County’s Zoning and Subdivision Control Ordinances.
  • Ability to simultaneously manage two or more tasks at any given time
  • A capacity and desire to interact with the public.
  • Ability to work overtime when necessary
  • Physical Requirements

  • Must be able to exert physical effort in light to medium work
  • Job may require lifting of 25 lbs or more
  • Must be able to sit or stand for an extended period of time
  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Certificate of completion in a CAD class
  • Experience in GIS preferred
  • Experience / Education / Qualifications Required
