- Teach English Language Learners (ELLs) social and academic language skills necessary to succeed in an academic environment and contribute to society.
- Teach English Language Learners the cultural aspects of the English language necessary to succeed in an academic environment and succeed in society.
- Collaborate with the classroom teachers to adapt content area instruction and assessment processes to meet the needs of the students and align with academic standards.
- Administer initial assessment to determine the English Language Learner’s level of English proficiency.
- Schedule English Language Learner’s amount of instruction according to their level of English proficiency.
- Assess periodically to determine student progress and identify when English Language Learner should exit the program.
- Monitor student progress after exiting the program.
- Provide information about assessment, academic achievement and related issues to parents.
- Participates in ongoing learning and professional growth opportunities.
- To successfully perform this position, a person must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The qualification requirements listed below represent minimum levels of educational achievement, training, skill and/or ability necessary.
- Bachelor’s Degree.
- Pennsylvania Teaching Certification in English as a Second Language.
- Ability to express self clearly and concisely in oral and written communications; and to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups.
- Ability to apply knowledge of current research and theory to instructional program; to plan and implement lessons based on curriculum objectives and the needs and abilities of students.
- Well organized with good time management skills.
- Computer literate and competent with word processing, spreadsheet and database applications.
- Effective interpersonal skills, with the ability to establish and maintain effective relationships with students, peers and parents.
- Submission of PA School Personnel Health form.
- Current Act 34, Act 151 and Act 114 clearances.
- Use hands to finger, handle or feel objects, tools or controls, and to talk and hear;
- Sit, stand, walk, and occasionally be required to stoop, kneel and crouch;
- Have specific vision abilities, to include close vision, color vision, and the ability to adjust focus;
- Have the ability to lift and/or move up to 25 pounds;
- Possess effective judgment; communication, mathematical, planning and human relations skills;
- Required to meet multiple demands from several people and interact with the public and other staff
