Job Summary
Owens Machine and Tool, LLC is an Aerospace and Defense machine parts manufacturer in Lewisville, Texas specializing in precision components and assemblies. We are seeking a CMM Programmer.
The CMM Programmer/ Operator is responsible for programming and operating the coordinate measuring machine (CMM) to perform layout (first piece buy-off), in process and final inspections of production parts.
Owens operates in accordance with ITAR regulations as administered by U.S. State Department. All employees must be US persons as defined by ITAR.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Develop and maintain programs for the CMM to measure machined parts using PC DMIS programming language, with either a part drawing or part CAD model for dimensional information.
- Possesses strong blueprint reading skills, GD&T knowledge, and mechanical inspection abilities. * Perform handheld inspection using typical measurement tools (mics, calipers, pin gages, height gages, thread gages, comparators, etc.)
- Generates inspection reports and data for internal and customer review.
- Communicate with the quality department to develop inspection methods, tool mapping, First Article Inspections (FAI’s), and in process checks for the floor.
- Design fixturing requirements for CMM applications. Engage with Manufacturing Engineering to fabricate work holding systems.
- Assist in troubleshooting to produce complex part features by working collaboratively with machinists, shop leads and programmers.
- Maintain open communications with leadership and engage in corrective action programs for non-conforming parts.
- Maintain CMM machine probe qualifications. Provide regular cleaning, track machine calibration, and schedule preventative maintenance. Maintain accurate maintenance logs.
- Calibrate simple gages (E.g., gage pins, calipers, micrometers, height gages, thread gages) used traceable standards.
- Perform required statistical process (SPC) Measurements and update SPC records. * Recommend products and test instruments to meet customer requirements.
- Contribute broadly towards quality objectives and established QMS.
REQUIREMENTS:
- High school diploma or GED; technical certification in Quality or Inspection preferred.
- Five or more years’ experience operating CMM machines in an aerospace manufacturing environment.
- Experience with tight tolerances and exacting requirements.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective and cooperative working relationships with all levels of manufacturing personnel and the executive team.
- Ability to learn and adapt to changing technology.
- Ability to clearly communicate and understand information in English, both orally and in writing.
- Ability to see fine details and read small print from drawings.
- Ability to extrapolate data from CAD and native Model Based Definition (MBD) files using CAD Software (SolidWorks) would be a plus.
Specific Knowledge/Skills
- Superior working knowledge of PC-DMIS
- Knowledge and understanding of AS-9100 QMS standards.
- Advanced knowledge of the field of geometric dimensions and tolerances (GD&T).
- Detailed knowledge of precision measuring instruments and the application of the instruments in real world inspection situations.
- Experience and skill using micrometers, calipers, height gages, go/no-go gages, radius pins to accurately measure complex parts.
- Working knowledge of computer software to include but not limited to Microsoft products (Excel and Word), Adobe PDF, Solid Works, metrology software, and browsers.
- Skilled in setting priorities that move projects through efficiently to achieve customer and quality objectives.
- Skilled in working independently and following through with assignments with minimal direction.
