Schedule: Monday - Friday, 3:00 PM - 11:30 PM (Non-Rotating)
Purpose of the Role
The Press Operator is tasked with the precise and efficient operation of press machinery to produce boards that meet stringent quality assurance standards. This role encompasses the entire process from start-up to shutdown, including the operation, monitoring, adjustment, and maintenance of the press and associated equipment. The Press Operator ensures that all products are manufactured to exact specifications, contributing to the overall quality and productivity of the production line.
Reporting Structure
Reports To: Shift Supervisor
Collaborates With: Fiber Prep Operator, Bale Breaker Operator
Key Responsibilities
Ensure paperwork is completed on time and accurately, including downtime reports, work orders, press parameter sheets, press production tags, test board data sheets, press load and mat weight information.
Complete inspections and audits in a timely manner.
Perform Preventative Maintenance on equipment as assigned to help eliminate downtime caused by mechanical issues.
Read and understand PLC screens, making adjustments as needed to control mat quality: temperature, blend ratios, elimination of ridges, even surfaces, resin flow, moisture, speed.
Conduct quality inspections on finished products and make necessary changes if quality issues occur.
Operate the forklift as certified.
Coordinate start-up and shut-down with other departments to ensure the procedure is carried out in the proper sequence.
Responsible for the Press Line operations including: Mat Formers, Blenders, Atomizers, Spray Stations, Press, Extractor, Pusher, Board Separator, Cooling Wheel, and Caul line.
Perform daily housekeeping tasks.
Communicate effectively with shift supervisor and maintenance personnel.
Promote a positive work attitude and team approach throughout the company.
Comply with company policies and all safety rules and procedures.
Perform all other duties as assigned.
Qualifications and Experience
Education:
HS Diploma or equivalent.
Experience:
Understanding of the manufacturing process as it relates to this position.
Preferred background in agricultural or industrial settings.
Proven mechanical skills.
Knowledge of computer operations, specifically PLCs, is desired.
Physical Requirements:
Physical ability to lift, push, or pull up to 50 lbs.
Ability to stand, walk, climb ladders/stairs, bend, push, pull, and reach for the duration of an 8-hour shift.
Skills and Competencies:
Excellent safety awareness for self and others.
Good mechanical skills.
Proficiency in operating PLC screens.
Competent and safe operation of a forklift.
Clear and effective verbal and written communication skills.
Basic math skills including addition and subtraction of multiple numbers and fractions.
Ability to read a tape measure down to 1/16 of an inch.
Accurate and neat printing skills.
Self-motivated with minimal supervision required.
Work Environment
Manufacturing facility with exposure to machinery and equipment.
Requires standing, walking, and lifting throughout the shift.
