PURPOSE OF THE JOB
The Environmental Specialist is a critical member of the plant team who provides guidance and coaching to drive ownership and accountability in the areas of environmental compliance and stewardship related to all plant activities.This position reports to the EHS Leader.
JOB RESPONSIBILITIES
Adhere to Safety and Environmental Responsibilities, & Drive a Safer Together Culture.
Ensure a safe, clean, and environmentally compliant work environment for employees, contractors, and visitors in which working Safer Together is the first priorityPartner with the EHS team to conduct environmental incident investigations, as well as make recommendations for an inspection-ready workplaceLead and support Environmental Initiatives and processes to drive towards zero non-conformities and NOV's.Set and accomplish critical environmental metrics to ensure continuous improvement.Drive and sustain environmental excellence through use of the Environmental Management System.Lead Sustainable Environmental Management
Drive and maintain compliance with Environmental operating permits, such as US EPA Title V air permits, Municipal Waste Water permits, and State or local Storm Water permitsDevelop and maintain environmental monitoring and recordkeeping to satisfy requirements of the plant's operating permitsManage all aspects of the plant's Hazardous waste, Solid waste, and Universal waste within Federal, State and Local guidelinesProvide regulatory guidance to facility leadership team and operating personnelReview or change policies and procedures to comply with changes to Environmental regulations and standardsFacilitate required Environmental testing of air, water and water sourcesWork with Division resources to facilitate Corporate Sustainability reporting, Green House Gas (GHG) reporting, Maximum Achievable Control Technology (MACT), and other current or pending regulatory requirementsInteract with outside consultants on regulatory and permitting changes. Track and approve consultant budgets and spendingEnsures environmental compliance documents and reporting deadlines are metProvide leadership required ensuring operations and, maintenance personnel are aware of and held accountable for environmental complianceCultivates and maintains relationships with regulatory bodies ( local, state, fed). to facilitate site compliance inspections, inquiries and corrective actionsDrive Plant Environmental Impact Improvements
Develop and implement environmental programs such as air and water compliance, above-ground and underground storage tanks, spill prevention and control, hazardous waste and materials management, solid waste recycling, and employee trainingUpdate compliance action item tracking tools and templates for existing and newly issued or updated permits. Track all items to on-time completion.Lead and support Environmental initiatives and processes to drive towards zero non-conformities and / or Notice of Violation (NOV's)Assess product, process and operational changes to determine environmental impactDrive and sustain environmental excellence through use of the Environmental Management SystemUtilize process and engineering knowledge to identify and lead process improvements to reduce environmental impact and / or improve sustainability goalsEnroll as the plant liaison on environmental issuesaffecting community, industrial neighbors, and environmental justice. [RK1]Maintain a leadership presence on the plant floor, influence employee and Supervisory behaviors, and fully engage employees in the sound environmental process management processGuide the Natural Leadership Team (NLT) in developing risk-ranked strategic plans, prioritize and advocate capital / resource requests, and advise the leadership team on all aspects of environmental requirements and responsibilitiesDevelop, implement, and evaluate the effectiveness of all critical Environmental processes, programs, and proceduresSets and accomplishes critical environmental metrics regularly to ensure continuous improvement in the processes that lead to a 100% engaged culture on the floorGrow and develop the plant EHS Lead and Compliance TechniciansMetrics
Federal, State and Local Environmental requirements.Plant Environmental metrics including Environmental Non-Conformities (ENC's), NOV's and Environmental Management System (EMS)Corporate and Division Metrics for Sustainability improvements / footprint reductions.Feedback from plant NLT members.JOB REQUIREMENTS
Minimum Qualifications :
3-5 years of experience working in an industrial or manufacturing environmentBachelor's DegreeProficiency in ExcelPreferred Experience :
Bachelor's degree in Environmental or Engineering related disciplines strongly preferredPrior environmental experience within the state of CaliforniaTitle V Air Permit experience / knowledge a plusEnvironmental Management SystemsKnowledge, Skills & Abilities :

The base salary range for this position is $87,400 to $113,850, with the potential for up to an additional 25% if the applicant hired has additional related qualifications.
