JOB DESCRIPTION
The Fiberizing Team R&D leader has overall accountability and supporting responsibilities to develop insulation fiberization processes and related manufacturing processes to enable differentiated products, unlock productivity, and improve stable operations across NA platforms and global platforms, respectively. The primary role of the R&D leader is to create effective management structures and provide resource oversight to accelerate projects and talent development. Additionally, the R&D leader is responsible for building and executing short-term and long-term strategies with cross-functional patterns (Ops, Commercial, S&T) to assign clear objectives and deliverables within his/her team aligned to business initiatives. Successful execution in this role will result in building a team and culture that delivers differentiated insulation products and productivity through fiberization to yield multi-million-dollar top-line and bottom-line growth per year.

Reports to: Insulation R&D Director
Span of Control: Several direct reports – engineers, scientists, and technicians
JOB RESPONSIBILITIES
In this role you will be the key connection across the insulation business for all technical matters involving fiberization and spinner metallurgy. This means you will be responsible for understanding your team’s capabilities and expectations across the business such that you can properly assign projects, deliverables, consultation, and resources to deliver results related to revenue growth and cost savings.
Commitment to Safety (5%)
- Create a safety culture
- Discuss safety in weekly team meetings

Management Structures (25%)
- Build clear project objectives aligned to business strategy to increase sales, increase profit margin, or return on existing assets
- Partner with appropriate team members to create and implement effective management structures to execute work, communicate status, address risks, and deliver on timelines
- Partner with cross functional teams to clearly assign project roles and responsibilities
- Participate in regular team meetings his/her team leads or heavily supports
Resource Management (25%)
- Allocate funds to project teams and manage expense budget (~$2 MM)
- Ensure project teams have appropriate talent and capabilities to execute objectives
- Provide coaching, feedback, and growth opportunities to accelerate talent development
- Assist in prioritization of work and hold team members accountable to perform against clear deliverables
- Identify synergies between fiberizing development and other core technology platforms to drive efficient execution
- Connect the team to our global network through EU and AP fiberizing initiatives
Build Strategy (25%)
- Develop insulation fiberizing strategy rooted in fundamental science to grow the business short term (1-3 years) and long term ( 5 years)
- Construct, assign, and sponsor projects to deliver productivity through fiberizing improvements
- Partner with key stakeholders across the enterprise to support step-change initiates to transform or create business platforms
- Build preliminary business cases with team and cross-functional partners to prioritize development
Team Leadership (20%)
- Create a flexible framework to regularly articulate team purpose, impact, priorities, and capabilities that describes fit into the insulation business and enterprise strategy
- Drive the beliefs and behaviors to deliver a culture that results in a high-performing team who are inspired, engaged, and capable to execute our strategy
- Generate meaningful performance metrics that resonate with the team to drive individual engagement and positive financial impact
- Consistently reflect on team organization and capabilities vs current strategy and adjust assignments and job descriptions to maximize team performance and personal development
JOB REQUIREMENTS
Minimum qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree
- 4 years of experience with people leadership and managing diverse groups
- 4 years of experience in competitively driving results and leading bold resource choices
- Critical thinker who is comfortable challenging the status quo.
- Excellent interpersonal skills, leadership skills, and communication skills
- Big picture mindset that can link task work to business impact
- Travel: 20-25%. Travel is usually self-determined.
Desirable qualifications
- Masters or Doctorate degree in mechanical, aerospace or chemical engineering field
- Strong technical aptitude for manufacturing process
- Demonstrated capability to lead technical projects to deliver results
- Previous work experience in fiberization or manufacturing processes
