POSITION SUMMARY:
The Aquatics Coordinator is responsible for the administration, development, and planning of high-quality Aquatic programs that are adequately staffed to ensure safety. The Aquatics Coordinator supervises, guides, and develops lifeguards, swim instructors, and additional assigned aquatic staff. In addition, the Aquatics Coordinator must be able to work closely with the Director of Facilities to ensure proper natatorium operation.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
1. Administers aquatic programs and services that fulfill YMCA objectives, maximize the facilities available, support the Y Cause, enhance membership, and meet community needs. This includes supervising existing program activities and establishing new program activities in accordance with strategic and operating plans.
2. Assists in the distribution of program information.
3. Monitors daily pool operations to adhere to all state, local, insurance, and YMCA health and safety regulations and conducts and ensures proper maintenance of pools. Maintains accurate records of pool chemical levels and facility maintenance.
4. Tracks pool usage to identify trends for appropriate operational hours and staffing adjustments.
5. Develops strategies to motivate staff and achieve goals. Ensures records of staff certifications are current and complete.
6. Secures and schedules the pool facilities, lifeguards, swim instructors, swim team coaches, and specialty program instructors.
7. Coordinates annual lifeguard certification courses, swim instruction training, First Aid and CPR trainings, and monthly in-service trainings.
8. Serves as staff representative for pool rentals providing approved contacts, invoices, and appropriate staffing coverage.
9. Models relationship-building skills in all interactions.
10. Maintains regular, clear, and concise communication within area of responsibility. Responds to all member and community inquiries and complaints in a timely and professional manner.
11. Compiles program statistic to monitor and evaluate the effectiveness of and participation in aquatic program.
12. Must be able to open the pool Monday-Friday. Weekend availability required.
13. Other duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS:
1. Minimum age of 18.
2. Certifications: CPR for the Professional Rescuer, AED, and Basic First Aid.
3. Current American Red Cross Lifeguard or equivalent.
4. Ability to maintain certification-level of physical and mental readiness.
5. Must demonstrate lifeguard skills in accordance with American Red Cross standards.
Physical Demands:
1. Hear noises and distress signals in the aquatic environment, including in the water and anywhere around the zone of responsibility. Remain alert with no lapses of consciousness.
2. Meet strength and lifting requirements.
3. See and observe all sections of an assigned zone or area of responsibility.
