Summary
Job Summary
Responsible for the provision of optimum advanced life support (ALS) care in accordance with KBEMS regulations 311A.167 and all Owensboro Health Muhlenberg Community Hospital-Emergency Medical Services guidelines and protocols.
Job Responsibilities
- Navigates ambulance to patient's location.
- Provides stabilization of scene and requests additional assistance as necessary.
- Determines nature and extent of illness or injury and patient's history from available sources.
- Administers emergency medical care within scope of practice, including patient stabilization, monitoring, and resuscitation, from the scene to receiving medical facility.
- Contacts medical personnel, reports and records observations, and follows directives.
- Maintains equipment, restocks supplies, and cleans ambulance as necessary.
- Responsible for the safe operation of all EMS vehicles in accordance with current Kentucky Motor Vehicle care.
- Demonstrates evidence of proficiency in the required Basic Life Support (BLS) and Advanced Life Support (ALS) skills.
- Maintains personal knowledge and skills in order to deliver optimum patient care as an EMT-A.
- Establishes and maintains effective working relations with fellow team members, hospital staff, fire and rescue squads, police departments, and communication centers.
- Supervises the performance of EMT-B.
- Documents all patient care, assessments, BLS/ALS skills and all service reports in a timely manner.
- Participates in training and evaluation of EMT'S when approved and requested.
- Must be punctual and ready for all shifts.
- Acts at all times in a professional manner and handle conflict and stressful situations with good judgment.
Qualifications
- High school diploma, General Equivalency Diploma (GED) or higher required upon hire
- No experience required
- AEMT - Licensed as an Advanced Emergency Medical Technician in the state of Kentucky required upon hire AND
- BLS - Certified as a Basic Life Support Healthcare Provider required upon hire AND
- Driver - Valid driver's license and 21 years of age required upon hire
