Summary
Job Summary
Responsible for the design, configuration, and setup of the Owensboro Health Laboratory systems, including analysis and testing. Duties also to include training and support for all new laboratory team members, ensuring personnel maintain necessary certification and licenses across the OHI system. Additionally, coordinating with Clinical Program Director to support the program as needed and address any Point-of-Care Testing (POCT) concerns and issues. Oversees all required certifications and licenses for laboratory personnel across the OHI system.
Job Responsibilities
- Leads, initiatives, and facilitates the development, maintenance and support of laboratory applications.
- Responsible for the organization, administration, periodic review, planning, development, evaluation, and general effectiveness of laboratory issues.
- Maintains and handles all administrative duties of the Phlebotomy program including attendance, grades, and communication with affiliates such as Workforce One.
- Teaches the clinical and didactic portion of American Society of Clinical Pathology (ASCP) and American Medical Technologists (AMT) Phlebotomy and Laboratory Assistant programs.
- Interviews and participates in the selection of applicants according to established criteria.
- Coordinates placement and scheduling of all students for certification exams, training, etc.
- Plans and conducts departmental orientation of all new team members. Orients phlebotomist to job specific duties through training, scheduling, and re-evaluating.
- Conducts safety training which includes initial training and annual reviews.
- Provides in-service and continuing education opportunities for the laboratory through the coordination of calendars and presentations.
- Documents and maintains in-service and competency records for laboratory team members.
- Works collaboratively with management and subject matter experts to understand desired performance, assess learning needs and develop appropriate training solutions.
- Creates standard work instructions.
- Stays abreast of current and evolving learning trends. Researches and applies industry benchmarks and practices.
- Responsible for inventory and orders of learning materials and supplies.
- Provides updates to leadership regarding learner processes and performance.
- Frequent travel to offsite locations may be required at times.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree or higher in Science required upon hire OR
- Bachelor's degree or higher in related field required upon hire
- A combination of education, training and experience may be considered in lieu of degree.
- A minimum of 3 years' relevant experience required
- PBT - Certified Phlebotomy Technician through the American Society of Clinical Pathology (ASCP) required upon hire OR
- RPT - Phlebotomy Technician certification through American Medical Technologists (AMT) required upon hire
