- High School diploma or equivalent required.
- Lead supervisory experience preferred.
- 3 years’ experience in food service preferred.
REPORTS TO: Director of Food Service and Building Principal
JOB GOAL: To serve the students attractive, nutritious meals following established guidelines and provide a comfortable, safe, respectful, and positive atmosphere for students, kitchen staff, and all other district personnel. Kitchen must follow all sanitation guidelines as required by the state and federal government. Additionally, the kitchen manager is responsible for ensuring the efficient operation of the kitchen.

- Knowledge of applicable laws, rules, policies, and procedures.
- Skills in problem solving, human interaction and conflict management.
- Ability to plan, organize and prioritize.
SUPERVISES: Food Service Personnel
REQUIRED PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Supervise and instruct kitchen personnel in a safe, proper, and efficient manner. Use equipment correctly. Report personnel problems to the Food Service Director.
- Maintain the highest standard of safety and cleanliness following all sanitation guidelines. Work with the health inspectors in a professional manner.
- Determine the quantities of food to prepare and assist with receiving shipments of food and/or materials.
- Follow set recipes and menus so that the nutritional data matches the meals served. Work with the Food Service Director, school nurse, and parents regarding special diets for students.
- Test foods in the proper way to assure taste and texture before meals are served.
- Keep adequate inventory records. Perform daily or monthly scheduled maintenance on all equipment. Check equipment regularly to assure that it is safe to use and properly working.
- Assure that the kitchen, storerooms, refrigerators, and freezers are locked each day, report any loss or damage to the Food Service Director.
- Arrange to check refrigerated equipment over long breaks. Assure food is properly stored, in cases of snow days.
- Report immediately to the Building Principal and the Food Service Director all accidents in the kitchen or cafeteria premise.
- Oversee the cooking, serving, and clean up of breakfast and lunch.
- Maximize the strengths of kitchen personnel to ensure the overall smooth operation of the kitchen by evaluating, supporting, and supervising kitchen staff.
- Attend managers’ meetings and any training meetings set by the District.
- Use good time management to ensure the serving schedule is met and ensure students are fed the correct foods in a timely manner.
- Effectively communicate with the Building Principal and the Food Service Director.
- Ensure a positive, respectful, and organized work environment for kitchen personnel.
- Work with the Food Service Director to solve problems which arise concerning the kitchen.
- Interact in a polite and courteous manner with students, faculty, staff, and parents.
- Promote healthy eating in the school food department. Work with administrators and other district personnel on special meetings and events.
- Arrange and ensure there is appropriate coverage in the kitchen when kitchen personnel are sick or unable to work.
- Other tasks assigned by the Food Service Director.
TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: Board approved academic calendar 1 additional day.
EVALUATION: Each employee will be evaluated by his/her supervisor(s) on a regular basis according to evaluation procedures established by the Board of Education. Evaluations will be based on general expectations for all employees, and the specific responsibilities of the position being evaluated.
PHYSICAL, MENTAL AND VISUAL DEMANDS: While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to stand, walk and sit. Additionally, the employee may occasionally be required to push or lift up to 50 lbs. as necessary for the safety and well-being of others. Lastly, this job requires the employee to have the vision ability to read handwritten or typed materials, and meet multiple demands from several people while interacting with other staff and the public.
