Job Summary:
Owl is seeking a dynamic Embedded Software Manager to lead and inspire high-performing development teams. In this role, you will drive the design, development, integration, testing, and deployment of cutting-edge embedded systems that meet evolving market and customer needs. You will collaborate closely with technical leads, ensuring seamless execution across the software and firmware development lifecycle.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Oversee software and firmware design, development, and deployment.
- Mentor, train, lead, and develop team members, providing constructive feedback and identifying opportunities for career advancement.
- Plan and prioritize projects consistent with business requirements.
- Manage engineering team development schedules and ensure projects are completed on time and within budget.
- Ensure adherence to deadlines, quality standards, and best practices across projects.
- Drive continuous improvement in code quality, performance, and maintainability.
- Collaborate with product management to establish product roadmaps and feasibility estimates.
- Assign resources to development teams and maintain overall resource management plans.
- Set clear performance goals and provide regular feedback.
- Lead research and development efforts for new product features or technical solutions.
- Define and communicate project milestones and resource allocation to leadership.
- Facilitate communication across teams, providing project status and prioritization.
- Maintain compliance with organizational standards (ISO9001, AS9100, CMMC, RTB).
Requirements/Qualifications:
- Education:
- BS in software or firmware engineering, computer science, or a related field.
- Experience:
- 10 years of experience in software or firmware engineering development, including at least 2 years as a project team lead.
- Experience in communications, defense, or government sectors preferred.
- Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
- Experience with secure software development principles.
- Expertise in programming languages such as Java, C, Rust, or similar.
- Familiarity with VHDL and SystemVerilog hardware description languages.
- Knowledge of Linux/BSD kernel, drivers, and systems administration.
- Strong communication and collaboration skills.
- Excellent problem-solving and critical-thinking skills.
- Experience with debugging, performance optimization, and system-level testing.
- Strong understanding of Agile/Scrum methodologies and tools (Git, JIRA).
- Ability to prioritize tasks effectively.
- Experience in hiring, scaling teams, and managing remote engineering teams.
- Additional Competencies/Requirements:
- This position offers a hybrid work arrangement, with the successful candidate expected to be in the office (Columbia, MD or Danbury, CT) 2-3 days per week.
- Candidates must be able to obtain/maintain a US Government security clearance.
