Job Summary

As a Nurse Practitioner at OWM Integrative Wellness, the role primarily focuses on providing superior concierge medical care through an integrative medical model. Responsibilities include diagnosing and treating acute/chronic health conditions using various integrative approaches, developing treatment plans, educating patients, ordering and interpreting diagnostic tests, prescribing interventions, managing patient follow-up and care, and collaborating with the medical team. Additionally, the position entails after-hours call rotation, continuous quality improvement efforts, and maintaining patient confidentiality and a clean work environment.

 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  1. Nurse Practitioner at OWM Integrative Wellness
  • First and foremost, follow an integrative medical model to provide superior concierge medical care to OWM clients.
  • Analyze and interpret patients’ history, symptoms, physical findings, or diagnostic information to develop an appropriate diagnosis.
  • Diagnose & treat acute/chronic health conditions with an integrative approach utilizing IV infusions, IV ozone, peptides, oral supplements, and bioidentical hormone therapies.
  • Develop treatment plans based on scientific rationale, standards of care, and professional practice guidelines.
  • Provide patients with detailed Summary (treatment plan) and OWM Action plan following within 48 hours of all initial consultations.
  • Provide patients with updated OWM Action Plans with in 24 hours of all follow up visits. 
  • Counsel patients about drug regimens and possible side effects or interactions with other substances such as nutritional supplements, over-the-counter (OTC) medications, and oral supplementation(s).
  • Detect and respond to adverse drug reactions, with special attention to clients with complex histories such as immunocompromised and chronic diseases.
  • Educate patients about self-management of acute or chronic illnesses, tailoring instructions to patients’ individual circumstances using an integrative approach (addressing sleep, diet, exercise, stress, mindfulness, etc.)
  • Order, perform or interpret the results of diagnostic tests such as bloodwork, imaging, and other diagnostic testing.
  • Prescribe interventions (medical prescriptions, supplements, peptides, IV infusions, etc.) with dosages, routes, and frequencies based on patient’s diagnosis and integrative medical best practices.
  • Recommend interventions to modify behavior associated with cardiovascular health risks as well as for stress reduction, weight management and sleep hygiene.
  • Manage and track the follow up and care for all Wellness/Hormone clients ensuring compliance with treatment, lab testing and following up in the office when appropriate.  
  • Performing treatments according to established operating procedures/guidelines (MiraDry).
  • Provide medical coverage of OWM Integrative Wellness infusion nurse during IV infusions when Dr Kaplan is not in the office. 
  • Provide backup in starting and monitoring IVs to the Infusion Team in times of busyness.
  • Review all new and follow up patients with Dr Kaplan once their review summaries and OWM Action Plans have been prepared. 
  1. After Hours and Out Of Office Call and Other Medical Coverage
  • Communicate and respond with patients in person, phone, and patient portal.
  • Take after hours call rotation alternating with Dr Kaplan at OWM.
  • Physician Assistant and physician should not be out of the office/traveling at the same time so they may cover call while the other provider is away and ensure continuous triage and call coverage at OWM.
  • PA is considered on duty when is out of office for CME paid by OWM and should be reachable by phone for questions about his/her patients. 
  1. Continuous Quality Improvement and Other
  • PA is required to undertake continuous efforts to increase their integrative medicine related knowledge base. They are expected to learn and master all A4M online course work directed to them by Dr Kaplan.
  • Reviewing faxes, documents, incoming labs, responding to calls, patient inquiries, emails, messages/triages, and prescription refills.
  • Completion of patient paperwork and forms.
  • Always maintain patient confidentiality.
  • Maintain a clean and organized work environment.
  • Completes related reports and projects in a timely manner and as directed.
  • Works as part of an office team to complete projects and other tasks in a cooperative and service-oriented manner.
  • Help OWM office run as efficiently and professionally as possible, this involves helping with keeping facility clean and putting away all furniture and equipment used for performance of a procedure if a medical assistant is not immediately available or is busy assisting Dr Kaplan.
  • Continuously reviews work related processes and communicates quality enhancement recommendations to management for review.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

 

Competencies:

  • Strong knowledge of integrative medical theories and key concepts .
  • Strong IV access skills.
  • Understanding theoretical basis of Intravenous health benefits and uses. 
  • Experience with patient assessment and monitoring.
  • Phone triage skills.
  • Strong data entry skills. PA should be able to enter key medical data into the EMR while performing a patient’s interview and examination.
  • Ability to interview patient for history (HPI, medical, surgical, social, family, medication, allergy)
  • excellent listening, speaking, and interpersonal skills. They must be able to understand what their patients are telling them, clearly communicate instructions, and build and maintain a trusting relationship.
  • Ability to establish and maintain an effective working relationship with all related parties.
  • Can work independently or as part of a team.
  • Strong clinical judgement - based on clinical interviews, physical examinations, and lab test results, identify diseases and other health conditions. 
  • Critical Thinking: When developing a treatment plan, must be able to evaluate various options to treat a condition and then identify treatment(s) that are the best recommendation for the patient.
  • Compassion - must be able to sympathize with sick, and worried, patients and their families.
  • Ability to prioritize work responsibilities and maintain composure while working under demanding conditions which may involve supporting multiple objectives, physicians, and satellite offices.   Can adapt to changing circumstances. 
  • Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing with all related parties.
  • Use of proper medical terminology including grammar, spelling, and punctuation.
  • Possesses strong organizational skills.
  • Possesses basic mathematical and analytical abilities
  • Can effectively utilize computer/laptop, printer and related software including MS word and excel. 
  • Basic keyboarding skills.  Can proficiently type a message into EMR system while talking to a patient/provider/pharmacy on the phone.

Preferred Education & Experience:

  • Master's degree in Nurse Practitioner Studies or a related field from an accredited program
  • Prior experience working as a Nurse Practitioner in a clinical setting
  • Proficiency in medical terminology, patient assessment, and treatment planning
  • Experience collaborating with physicians, nurses, and other healthcare professionals in a team-based environment
  • Knowledge of electronic medical records (EMR) systems and medical billing procedures
  • Continuing education or specialized training in specific medical specialties may be preferred, depending on the nature of the position

Certifications, Licenses, Registrations:  

  • New York State Nurse Practitioner License
  • Other certifications, licenses, registrations as needed.
