Description
The Sr. Regulatory Compliance Specialist works cross functionally with Research & Development, Sales, Marketing, and Quality Assurance, as well as directly with customers to provide all aspects of Food Labeling and Regulatory information. The Regulatory Compliance Specialist facilitates workflows for new products, packaging, labels, and product changes. This person manages and maintains a database of documents required for compliance with regulatory standards and completes surveys and/or audits for regulatory or customer requests.
Requirements
- Responsible for all regulatory compliance for the organization.
- Develops and implements processes and procedures for incoming and outgoing regulatory documents.
- Validates product composition and labeling compliance under US and International laws & regulations.
- Understands, analyzes, and manages formulas using Genesis Labeling software given from Product Development and customer.
- Creates and generates the ingredient statement and nutritional panel for package labeling utilizing Genesis ESHA software.
- Responsible for Organic products certification; completes OPI.
- Responsible for Non-GMO / Bio-Engineered product verification.
- Understands Identity Preserved product requirements (GMO, Organic, Gluten Free, Kosher, Halal).
- Signs all in-house verifications for: nutrition panels, specification sheets and range formulas, country of origin, allergen sheets, Non-GMO / Bio-Engineered and International documents.
- Proofs finish good labels.
- Participates in validation of marketing call outs; proofs marketing materials and approves label ingredient statement and nutritional panel and net weight, using FDA/USDA guidelines.
- Maintains and/or updates current ingredient, finished goods and labeling requirements for raw materials and finished goods.
- Works alongside teams to identify regulatory requirements for products and labels.
- Updates formula databases and record maintenance in Plex ERP system.
- Accountable for package proofing specifications.
- Manages Specification and Technical data to current and up to date.
- Studies emerging policy, legislative or regulatory initiatives that may impact our business or regulatory compliance and report implications.
- Provides regulatory guidance and answer compliance related questions/documents per FDA/USDA compliance.
- Completes customer regulatory requests promptly.
- Assists in training for regulatory related topics.
- Supports Director of Food Safety and Quality with on-site audits, program reviews at the manufacturing facilities.
- Other duties may be assigned.
Position Qualifications:
Minimum:
- Bachelor’s degree in Regulatory, Food Science, Nutrition, Biology, Chemistry, or related discipline or equivalent experience.
- Experience with 3rd party standards and certifications in the food industry.
- Capable of working independently with minimal supervision.
- Strong communication, organization, and team-oriented skills.
- Strong problem-solving skills.
- Ability to lead group discussions.
- Flexibility to travel on an infrequent basis.
- Ability to research food regulations and interpret and apply them to daily job role.
- Ability to quickly learn company capabilities.

Preferred:
- 3 years of experience in the technical aspects of food labeling, food analysis or quality assurance.
- Master’s Degree/MBA.
- Process Controls Qualified Individual (PCQI).
- Strong Microsoft office and Google Doc skills.
