POSITION SUMMARY


Ox-Bow School of Art and Artists’ Residency is an 115-year old organization which connects artists to: a network of creative resources, people, and ideas; an energizing natural environment; and a rich artistic history and vital future.

 

The Assistant Manager of Campus Life: After Hours & Community Care is a member of the campus office team, who serves as a source of campus leadership and knowledge on Ox-Bow happenings, practical information, and wellness resources. They provide administrative and events support during evening hours. An additional primary function of the Assistant Manager is to respond to urgent, time sensitive, and emergency needs of the campus body during evening hours, when the rest of campus staff are not actively working. This position provides participants with an after hours point person who can answer routine questions about campus life, as well as assist with basic first aid, CPR, and emergency situations as necessary. The Assistant Manager will also plan, arrange, and support as assigned on-campus social events, community wellness events, and resources for the ever-changing on-site community. The Assistant Manager will help set the tone and be an ambassador for an engaged and healthy on-campus culture. The ideal candidate feels invested in community care and wellness and is excited to bring their own research, training, and/or practice in this area to a residential educational community. With room to develop creative programming that unites participants, the Assistant Manager will be curious about the overlap between community wellness and social activities, and enthusiastic about contributing to the fabric of campus life.

 

This position requires working an evening shift as well as being the sole staff member available (on-call) via walkie talkie overnight during their scheduled evenings. This position will run from mid-April through late-August. This is a residential position during the scheduled working season, and room and board (3 prepared meals a day) as well as studio access on campus are provided. Regular shift hours are paid hourly; and, if any incident occurring during the on-call hours requires attention, paid at time and ½ for hours worked over 40 hours per week. Scheduled working hours are subject to change and are determined by the Deputy Director. This position is a 1-season contract with the option for annual renewal up to 3-seasons pending satisfactory performance review.

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES


  • Provide an active presence at reception desk as default work location during scheduled hours
  • Keep walkie-talkies charged, on and within earshot during work and on-call hours
  • Assist anyone who needs first aid/medical attention
  • Seek help from appropriate resources or emergency professionals when needed, including but not limited to Ox-Bow’s directors, on-call wellness counselors, and outside resources
  • In an emergency, call 911 and begin CPR if needed
  • Assist participants (not Ox-Bow staff members) in need of emotional or mental health first aid
  • Be a calming, open ear for on-campus participants (not Ox-Bow staff members)
  • Be a positive, supportive, visible presence on campus during evening events
  • Implement emergency protocols when necessary
  • Appropriately document all incidents or emergencies
  • Serve as an official Title IX intake staff member
  • Stock and maintain emergency kits and first aid stations
  • Support participant check-in processes during evening hours as assigned
  • Write agendas detailing weekly on-campus events and use them to lead Sunday Summit staff and fellow weekly informational meetings
  • Help coordinate annual social/civic tradition participation as assigned, such as but not limited to Ox-Bow participation in local Pride and 4th of July events
  • Set up weekly Visiting Artist lectures and socials as assigned
  • Attend weekly campus office team check-in meetings
  • Under the guidance of the Deputy Director, plan and implement campus wellness events and cultivate wellness resources for staff and participants
  • Coordinate staff and fellow safety and wellness trainings pertaining, but not limited to, topics such as CPR and first aid, consent, party safety, boundaries, and accountability
  • Coordinate confidential appointments with on-call therapists for participants
  • Ensure students who are not yet 21 years of age are not consuming alcohol or other legal drugs
  • Ensure Ox-Bow’s chicken flock is secured in coop at sundown during each shift
  • Ensure exterior doors to the Inn are closed at the end of each shift
  • Other project- and event-based support as determined by the Deputy Director; including but not limited to office, housekeeping, maintenance, events, and hospitality support

 

 

EDUCATION/JOB EXPERIENCE/CERTIFICATIONS

  • 1-2 years previous experience as a resident advisor, camp counselor, mediator, or similar
  • Trained in first aid and CPR (Ox-Bow will provide this training as needed); previous CPR certification a plus
  • Trained in emotional/mental health first aid (Ox-Bow will provide this training as needed); previous experience a plus
  • Title IX process training (Ox-Bow will provide training); previous experience a plus
  • Know and communicate Ox-Bow’s emergency, health, and safety protocols
  • Know and communicate campus rules and regulations

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS AND WORKING CONDITIONS

  • Ability to traverse uneven terrain including stairs
  • Ability to work indoors and outdoors in high heat and humidity
  • Ability to work nights and weekends
  • Ability to communicate and exchange information and to effectively communicate correct information in person and using digital technology
  • Ability to read/comprehend, write, communicate orally, reason; analytical abilities and mental flexibility
  • Specific vision abilities required by the job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus to compare and distinguish administrative data
  • Hearing ability to perceive the nature of sounds at normal speaking level with or without correction. Ability to receive detailed information through oral communication and to make discriminations in sound
