Job Title: OAC Swim Summer Camp Counselor

Job Summary: Oxford Athletic Club is the most extensive private health and fitness club in the Pittsburgh area and is nationally recognized by the Health & Fitness Association for excellence.
We are currently seeking seasonal Swim Summer Camp Counselors.
Camp Counselors will lead, support, and motivate campers at OAC Swim Summer Camp. Camp Counselors will help lead group events and supervise campers in the pool, locker room, and during group activities. Counselors should be positive, proactive, and caring while focusing on giving campers a fun, safe camp experience. Camp Counselors should be upbeat, empathetic, outgoing, and responsible. They should also be organized, possess strong leadership skills, and be willing to learn and implement new skills in childcare.
Job Relationships: Reports to: Aquatics Manager
Status: Seasonal, hourly, non-exempt
Essential Job Duties:
· Leading by example and promote the Oxford Athletic Club core values.
· Availability from 9:30 AM to 4:30PM, Monday-Friday. Counselors must be available to work at least 7 weeks from June 9-August 15, 2025.
· Attending two days of orientation from June 5-6, 2025. And a week of training from June 9-13, 2025.
· Working with camp staff and Oxford Athletic Club employees to coordinate and oversee swim camp activities.
· Leading and supporting campers aged 6-12 as they participate in skill-appropriate activities.
· Performing summer camp counselor duties such as changing children in locker rooms, assisting with pickup and dropoff, helping with the camper lunch period, before care and after care as assigned, and transitions between activities.
· Monitoring campers to ensure compliance with camp rules and prevent accidents.
· Cleaning, maintaining, and ensuring proper use of Oxford Athletic Club facilities and equipment.
· Reporting and recording details of incidents, such as accidents or rule violations to the Camp Director.
· Enacting emergency procedures and leading campers in evacuation or notifying medical staff.
· Building rapport with campers, encouraging participation and confidence in the water.
Skills:
· Very strong swimming skills, knowledge of technique, and experience teaching swimming to children in a group setting.
· Upbeat, engaging personality. Very socially outgoing and high energy.
· Strong communication, interpersonal, and leadership skills.
· Love of working with children. Empathy, care, and a desire to create fun for children ages 6-12. Patience and kind demeanor when interacting with children.
· Physical ability to participate in rigorous outdoor activities- running, climbing, swimming, lifting, and moving heavy equipment.
· Proficiency in a wide variety of sports, games, and kids activities. The ability to teach these activities to children in a simple, patient manner.
Qualifications:
- Individual must be over 18 years of age at time of application.
- Individual must always act with the utmost of professionalism around both coworkers as well as members.

- Excellent physical condition, possess a professional manner, and appearance.
- Accountable, self-motivated and possess the ability to motivate others.
Required Education and Experience:
· One year or season of experience working with children in a group setting.
· Must be able to obtain and submit PA Child Abuse Clearances which include PA child abuse clearance, PA criminal background check, and FBI clearance.
· CPR, AED, and First Aid Certification (CPR training will be provided as paid training).
Preferred Education and Experience:
· One year or season coaching children in a swimming setting.
· Three or more years in competitive swimming.
· Lifeguarding certification (preferred, but not required).
Physical Demands:
· Must be physically fit as strenuous teaching activities can occur for long periods of time (4 to 8 hours).
· Shifts include walking, running, standing, bending, pushing, pulling, and lifting.
· Ability to lift up to 50 pounds.
· Requires a normal range of hearing and vision.
· Requires manual dexterity sufficient to operate standard office and sports equipment.
Job Type: Part-time
Pay: $14.00 - $15.00 per hour
