The City of Oxford is seeking to establish an eligibility list for the position of full-time Police Officer. This is a Classified position. Pay for lateral entry applicants will be based on years of full-time police service with another agency up to 100% of the pay range for applicants with three or more years of qualifying service. The exam will be administered through the National Testing Network at https://www.nationaltestingnetwork.com/publicsafetyjobs/exams.cfm. A minimum score of 70% is required to move forward.Additional credit for education, military service, or City of Oxford service credit will be applied to passing scores in accordance with Rule V of the Classified Service Procedures and Personnel Appeals Board Rules and Regulations. Proof of additional credit must be turned in to the Human Resources Manager at HR@cityofoxford.org within ten (10) business days of completion of the written examination deadline. A High school diploma or equivalent is required; a bachelor’s degree in police science, criminal justice, psychology, sociology, or a related field, and/or Certification as a Police Officer in the State of Ohio is preferred. Non-certified appointees must successfully complete certification requirements at the training academy assigned by the City of Oxford.Must be 20.5 years of age prior to the date of examination.Physical Fitness TestThe time and location for the physical fitness assessment will be provided after the application and written test phases have been completed. Police Division staff will administer the test, and applicants will be required to sign a waiver to participate. This test will be pass/fail and does not contribute to the overall ranking list. Candidates who fail will be removed from the eligibility list. Link to physical fitness benchmarks.Lateral entry candidates with at least three years of experience are not required to take the physical fitness test.Interviews & BeyondCandidates who are in the top five of the eligibility list will be interviewed and begin the background process. Additional interviews may be required. As candidates are excluded from the Eligibility List, the next viable candidates may be interviewed. Candidates are removed from the eligibility list after one year.Conditional Offer of EmploymentThe top five viable candidates on the Eligibility List will be recommended for hire. Once a conditional offer of employment is made, candidates will continue in the background process, which includes a polygraph examination, psychological exam, and medical exam. In addition, we want to give you a little insight into our organization, and one of the best ways to do that is to share our mission, vision, and value statements.Disqualifiers: Arrest and conviction of a felony.Arrest and conviction of a misdemeanor involving moral turpitude (e.g., theft).Arrest and conviction for domestic violence.Undetected crimes – If you have perpetrated or been a party to a criminal act that has been undetected by any law enforcement agency that in the State of Ohio would be a felony offense, a misdemeanor involving moral turpitude, or domestic violence, and that undetected crime is not revealed during the interview process but instead is disclosed as part of the polygraph examination, the Oxford Division of Police will not consider you for employment.Not having a valid operator’s license.Driving record with multiple offenses, an element of which is carelessness or disregard for other motorists/pedestrians.Arrest and conviction for OVI (Operating Vehicle under the Influence) more than one time.Arrest and conviction for OVI within the past five (5) years. If the OVI conviction occurred while a juvenile (< 18 years of age), within the past three (3) years.Usage of any illegal drug or the unlawful use of prescription drugs within the past year. More than experimental usage of one or more of the following illegal substances during your lifetime: Cocaine, Hashish, Heroin, Marijuana, LSD, Meth, any inhalant, or the unlawful use of prescription drugs. EXAMPLE OF DUTIES
POSITION FUNCTIONResponsible for the preservation of peace, enforcement of the law, prevention and detection of crimes and rendering service to the public.JOB RESPONSIBILITIES: ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS Enforce City ordinances and State statutes.Patrol in assigned area of the City during a specified period in a motor vehicle or on foot.Investigate crime or suspicious conditions; watch for conditions affecting the safety of persons or property.Respond to complaints.Collect, prepare and preserve evidence.Make court appearances; organize testimony for presentation in court.Serve warrants or summons.Accompany prisoners to jail or court; escort authorized personnel in the transport of money or other valuables.Direct traffic and assist motorists.Control crowds at public gatherings.JOB RESPONSIBILITIES: ADDITIONAL EXAMPLES OF WORK PERFORMEDPerform first-aid when needed.Prepare reports on accidents; file complaints on violations; complete other reports as needed.Visit homes, schools, businesses and civic groups to provide information on various law enforcement activities and to conduct community-oriented policing activities.May serve as acting shift supervisor in the absence of lieutenant or sergeant.Performs other related duties as assigned.

SUPPLEMENTAL INFORMATION
Employee has regular exposure to persons displaying irate, angry or volatile behavior and emergency situations which expose the incumbent to a high degree of stress. Working time may require irregular hours and shift times. Employee is regularly required to walk, sit for long periods of time, stand, see, use hands, reach with hands and arms, speak, hear, stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl and lift and/or move up to 100 pounds.
