TITLE: Recess/Lunchroom AideWORK SCHEDULE: Monday-Friday, 11:15am - 1:30pm, while school is in session.SUMMARY: Reporting to the Building Principal, the Recess/Lunchroom Aide assists in maintaining an orderly, safe, and pleasant atmosphere in the cafeteria, on the playground, and in other designated locations by helping and supervising students at mealtime and at playtime in accordance with school policy and established district procedures.ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Supervises students in the cafeteria during meals and maintains a system for orderly food purchase by students, disposal of food waste, and return of trays and utensils.Sees that students are seated in assigned areas throughout their time in the cafeteria.Circulates among tables during mealtime so as to be available to students who need help, or to resolve any minor issues that arise; ensures cleanliness of tables and surrounding areas.Communicates with the classroom teachers about any relevant concerns; informs principal of any serious infractions of discipline rules by students or in event of a breech of security procedures.Brings medical problems and injuries to the immediate attention of school nurse and/or principal.Organizes groups for orderly dismissal from the cafeteria; supervises students in the play area and those moving to and from the play area.Supervises students in designated areas in the event of inclement weather or other situations.Follows all policies, rules, and procedures established by the school district; maintains confidentiality about students in accordance with district guidelines; maintains positive demeanor at all times including use of appropriate language.Participates in orientation programs and relevant staff development opportunities in accordance with district guidelines and resources to enhance job-related skills and knowledge.MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Education and ExperienceHigh School Diploma required. Minimum of one year of experience working with children and/or supervising children. Knowledge, Skills, and AbilitiesKnowledge of behavior management and techniques for effectively managing young children.Skill-based competencies include attention to detail and accuracy, exercise of judgment in carrying out tasks with minimal guidance and direction. Ability-based competencies include communicating with staff and students with courtesy and tact, and performing operations and assigned tasks according to a prescribed deadline.PHYSICAL DEMANDS: While performing the duties of this job, the employee may be required to stand or sit for long periods of time; walk both short and long distances, communicate, and hear.
The employee is required to reach with hands and arms, climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl; may frequently lift, pull, or otherwise move objects between 10 and 20 pounds.
