As a fast-growing company striving to make a difference every day, we are seeking a Mechanical Engineer Intern to work on a cross functional team, carrying out a wide range of activities related to designing, analyzing, and fabricating various mechanical and electro-mechanical components and assemblies for robotic guidance applications and visual inspection systems. Your work will include systems design and analysis, risk identification and mitigation, proof of concept calculations/testing, component design, creation of engineering drawings for fabrication for prototyping and design verification and performance testing (mechanical, vibration and thermal), including the creation of supporting documentation such as design reviews and test reports.

Primary Responsibilities:
- Design mechanical & electromechanical assemblies, subsystems and components
- Perform 3D modeling, simulation, and analysis using SolidWorks
- Design or spec automation subsystems systems including component specification, cabinet design, cable/connector specification and wiring
- Build and test prototypes for design verification, proof of concept, and risk mitigation
- Perform verification and validation testing and document results
- Prepare reports and participate in design reviews
- The ability to commute to Bedford, MA 5 days a week
- Able to lift objects and equipment weighing as much as 35 lbs on occasion
- Comfortable working in a laboratory setting with tools and laboratory equipment
- Other duties as required
Requirements:
- Candidate for BS or BE of Mechanical Engineering or Mechatronics, at a nationally ranked University, College of Engineering, or Technological Institution
- Ideally having completed your 3rd year of undergraduate education, heading into your senior or final year with a GPA of 3.0 or higher (where 4.0 is top of the scale)
- Prior summer internship or co-operative work experience in industry, preferred
- Comfortable using common hand and power tools, familiarity with commercial 3D printing techniques and printers, prototype fabrication, and test skills preferred
- Experience with robotic/semi-robotic systems and automation, or other complex electromechanical systems preferred
- Proficiency with SolidWorks – able to create complex assemblies including solid models and engineering drawings
- Exposure to different fabrications/manufacturing techniques used to create mechanical assemblies, brackets and fixtures, enclosures, etc.
- Experience with SolidWorks FEA for stress & strain, vibration, and thermal analysis highly desired
- Familiarity with GD&T and stack-up analysis
- Experience using accelerometers, thermistors, thermocouples, calipers, micrometers and other laboratory tools and sensors is a plus
- Strong communication and collaboration skills
- Methodical, detail oriented, and well organized
- Excellent time management skills and comfort working in a fast-paced environment on multiple simultaneous projects
