POSITION SUMMARY:
The Prep Cook/Kitchen Assistant aids the Cooks in the overall running of the kitchen. This position sets the tone for the kitchen by role modeling appropriate work ethic, attitude, and team spirit. This person is responsible for: advance prep for meals, salad bars and bakery, cleaning and assisting cooks in meal prep/delivery. They will reduce food waste through the creative use of extras and proper storage, monitors inventory in the storeroom, rotates stock in the walk-in coolers maintain their cleanliness and order, and assists with food deliveries verifying stock as it arrives.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Assist in the day-to-day operations of the camp’s food service.
- Prepare food: including, washing, peeling and chopping.
- Ability to maintain proper food temperatures and assess condition of food.
- Set up food, supplies and utensils for dining hall distribution.
- Assist with inventory management.
- Communicate changes in inventory to Food and Sanitation Cooridnator
- Maintain routine sanitation and upkeep of the kitchen, equipment and facilities.
- Maintain high standards of cleanliness, sanitation, and safety.
- Clean, sanitize and maintain all food preparation equipment, kitchen floors and food storage areas.
- Wash, dry, and fold all kitchen laundry (towels, aprons, etc.)
- Wash all utensils, pots and pans, prep and dining hall dishes.
- Reduce waste, reuse items and recycle as much as possible.
- Adhere to all established health code regulations.
- Work as a member of the camp staff team.
- Maintain effective communication with administrative camp staff.
