POSITION SUMMARY: 

This position supports the work of the Y, a leading nonprofit, charitable organization committed to strengthening community through youth development, healthy living, and social responsibility. The School Age Services Program Staff maintains a supportive, positive atmosphere that welcomes and respects all individuals, promotes the potential of all youth, and provides a quality experience to both youth and their families through the implementation and daily supervision of before and/or after school activities, school out days, and holiday programming.   

 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES: 

  1. 1. Be knowledgeable and adhere to Safety Policies, Procedures and Emergency Response Plans. Always keeping Safety at the forefront of your mind. 

  1. 2. Supervises the children, classroom, and all program activities. 

  1. 3. Follows all procedures and standards as established by the law or the Y; makes ADA accommodations where appropriate; maintains the program site, equipment, and required program records. 

  1. 4. Nurtures children through purposeful programming and stimulated learningassists in creation and implementation of lesson plans that are intended to achieve program goals and outcomes in a group setting. 

  1. 5. Creates a positive rapport and shared interest with all youth. 

  1. 6. Provides opportunities for youth to lead, problem-solve, and make decisions and choices within the program and provides daily opportunities for youth to reflect on and respond to their experiences. 

  1. 7. Makes ongoing, systematic observations and evaluations of each child. 

  1. 8. Provides and welcomes ongoing dialogue with parents and caregivers about their child’s needs and progress; conducts parent/caregiver conferences; connects families to the Y. 

  1. 9. Attends and participates in program activities, staff meetings, and staff training. 

  1. 10. Each participant’s safety and enjoyment are attained in child development by promoting and role modeling a healthy environment while adhering to state licensing guidelines and the SAS Policy Handbook. 

  1. 11. Organize and lead a variety of activities appropriate for school age children, which may include, but not limited to:  arts & crafts, indoor/outdoor games, and other enrichment activities 

  1. 12. Ensure the site is kept clean and organized. 

  1. 13. Assist in maintaining accurate program records including:  incident reports, daily rosters, logbook documentation, and attendance records. 

  1. 14. Exemplify YMCA character development program by demonstrating strong values and integrating all components of school age curriculum into programming. 

  1. 15. Maintain communication with supervisor as it relates to program needs, snacks, forms, first aid equipment, etc. 

  1. 16. Possess working knowledge of YMCA mission, purpose, goals, school age program policies, and YMCA standards, and be able to articulate to parents, school staff, and program participants. 

  1. 17. Be able to promote other YMCA programs and membership to participants. 

  1. 18. All other duties as assigned.  


QUALIFICATIONS: 

  1. 1. Must be 18 years of age or older.  

  1. 2. At least 3 credits in elementary education, child guidance, or child development 

  1. 3. Within 10 days of hire, a Physical and TB test results/risk assessment must be on file with ORYMCA School Age Services. CPR Pro & First Aid 4. 4. Certification required within the first 30 days (training can be provided). 

  1. 5. Experience leading or providing care for children is preferred. 

  1. Mature, responsible, easy-going individuals with good communication skills.  

  1. 6. Must be able to interact with kids and adults in a positive manner, enthusiastic, flexible.  

  1. 7. Must be able to align with and demonstrate the YMCA four core values on a consistent basis.  

  1. 8. Ability to plan, organize and implement age-appropriate/developmentally appropriate program activities. 

  1. 9. Previous experience with diverse populations.  

  1. 10. Ability to develop positive, authentic relationships with people from different backgrounds. 

  1. 11. Commitment to inclusion and compliance with the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA).

  1. 1. Ability to perform all physical aspects of the position for long periods of time, including walking, standing, bending, squatting, and kneeling.

  1. 3. Visual and auditory ability to identify and respond to environmental and other hazards related to the activity.  

  1. 4. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.   

  1. 5. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate to high
