SCHEDULE DETAILS: Full-time/11-month position/PSRS

Position Summary

The ASN Lab and Clinical Coordinator is responsible for overseeing the ASN lab, ensuring the sustainability plan is maintained, managing the lab schedule, and coordinating supply orders in collaboration with the Alliance and ASN faculty team. This role involves working closely with ASN Program faculty and Alliance staff to develop, maintain, and schedule simulation experiences that align with course objectives.

Additionally, the Coordinator manages clinical experiences at various facilities, including student orientation and onboarding, while collaborating with faculty to request clinical placements that support course and program outcomes. The role also includes assisting faculty with lab instruction, supervising student lab activities, evaluating student performance, and adjusting work schedules as needed to meet program demands and accreditation requirements.

The position requires teaching 9-15 instructional hours per week. These instructional hours are equivalent to 12 credit hours as calculated by Health Sciences. The coordinator is allowed to teach two classes (6-8 credit hours) for overload per semester. Over two classes (6-8 credit hours) for overload is rare and requires approval of Dean and Provost.

Essential Job Duties

  • Collaborate with the ASN Program Director to manage the ASN Lab and clinical needs.
  • Assist the ASN Program Director, ASN Faculty, and Alliance with quality control and improvement in the ASN Lab.
  • Promote and facilitate continuous improvement of instruction for the department through collaboration and promotion of innovative teaching techniques in both lab and simulation.
  • Collaborate with ASN faculty and program director in acquiring clinical sites and obtaining affiliation agreements.
  • Ensure appropriate orientation to clinical sites for all faculty and students in the ASN program.
  • Collaborate with faculty to enforce student requirements for clinical experiences.
  • Serve as a resource for adjunct/part-time faculty providing orientation and support as needed.
  • Work with faculty and program director to gather feedback from clinical instructors, clinical facilities, and students to ensure clinical experiences allow students to meet course objectives and program outcomes.
  • Acts as a liaison between faculty and clinical sites in matters related to maintaining records, organizing schedules, compliance with clinical agency policies, and accessing Electronic Health Records (EHR).
  • Works with ASN Program Director to ensure compliance with program accreditation and regulation requirements for the ASN Lab.
  • Serve as departmental advocate by promoting program offerings and facilitating student recruitment.
  • Assess, evaluate, and ensure documentation of student performance and progress in skills lab or simulation settings as needed.
  • Provide quality instruction which is reflective of current discipline standards and is accurate, relevant, and engaging using college –approved curriculum and resources.
  • Foster a positive learning environment by presenting information in a way that is inclusive to all learners, including the assurance of section 508 accessibility.
  • Participate in the required number of hours of professional development each year, ten of which must focus on fostering teaching improvement.
  • Demonstrate reflective practice, including assessment of student learning. This includes ongoing formative assessments, as well as official departmental assessment.
  • Actively participate in department and division meetings, events, and initiatives.
  • Mentor part-time instructors in their academic department or program area, as needed.
  • Assist in textbook and course material selection.
  • Participate in curriculum development and work with advisory committees, as needed.
  • Provide accurate and appropriate academic advising.
  • Exhibit exemplary attendance and punctuality.
  • Comply with college policies and procedures.
  • Perform other duties as assigned, including participating in commencement, attending college functions, serving on committees and attending community events.
  • Demonstrate alignment OTC Cares (student-centered, holistic, proactive, and data-driven) and utilize that framework in day-to-day and long-term decision-making.

Required Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

  • Bachelor’s degree in nursing from a regionally accredited institution of higher learning.
  • Current (or be eligible to obtain) unrestricted Missouri State License as a Registered Nurse (RN).
  • Two years of experience within the last five years in nursing education, clinical practice, or administration.
  • Demonstrate current knowledge in course content and effectiveness in teaching assigned subjects.
  • Ability to work well with others.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills.
  • Ability to use information technology for professional productivity (such as Microsoft Office Suite).

Preferred Knowledge Skills & Abilities

  • Master’s degree in nursing from a regionally accredited institution of higher learning.
  • Experience managing or supervising a group of students, cohort of students, or nursing program.
  • Experience in a leadership role in a professional organization.
  • Experience with Colleague.
  • Experience working within a collegiate setting.

Physical: Primary functions require sufficient physical ability and mobility to work in an office setting; to stand or sit for prolonged periods of time; to lift, carry, push, and/or pull light to moderate amounts of weight; to operate office equipment requiring repetitive hand movement and fine coordination including use of a computer keyboard.
