R&D Lab Technician IV
Salary: $70,000 - $80,000 Annually
A Day In The Life
As an R&D Lab Technician IV, you’ll take ownership of complex concrete and mortar trials—from concept to conclusion. You’ll lead hands-on lab work, develop custom mix designs, generate batch sheets, and oversee testing that supports innovation, quality, and performance across a wide range of materials. Your ability to analyze results and create detailed reports will play a critical role in advancing our research and development objectives.
This role also involves guiding and mentoring junior technicians, maintaining the integrity of lab processes, and actively contributing to a collaborative, high-performance environment focused on pushing the boundaries of concrete science.
Responsibilities
- Design concrete and mortar mixes for research trials, including batch sheets and volume calculations
- Analyze test data and write comprehensive technical reports to inform decision-making
- Oversee sampling, material prep, and quality checks to ensure trial accuracy and consistency
- Monitor lab operations and ensure testing meets ASTM, AASHTO, and internal standards
- Lead or assist in technician training, onboarding, and performance feedback
- Collaborate with R&D leadership to provide project updates and support cross-functional goals
- Provide input on equipment performance, material behavior, and process improvements
- Bachelor’s degree in Concrete Industry Management, Construction Management, Engineering, or related field (preferred)
- IDOT Level 3 Certification required
- ACI and other relevant certifications required
- Minimum 7 years of experience in concrete materials testing, mix design, or ready-mix manufacturing
- 3 years in a leadership or supervisory role in an R&D or lab setting
- Proficiency in ASTM/AASHTO standards and lab equipment
- Advanced understanding of ready-mix production, material behavior, and concrete technologies
- Strong communication and reporting skills with a commitment to accuracy
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office, Google Suite, and lab reporting software
