SUMMARY
The Director of Development will lead Ozone House’s fundraising and development efforts, providing strategic direction and managing all aspects of the department, including fundraising campaigns, donor relations, event coordination, and team leadership. This role is essential for advancing the mission of Ozone House by building relationships with donors, funders, and key stakeholders, cultivating major gifts, and supervising the Communications and Marketing Associate and Development Associate. The Director of Development will work collaboratively with the Board of Directors and the Executive Director to meet the agency’s fundraising goals and expand Ozone House’s network of support.
EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS
- Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field, required.
- Certified Fund-Raising Executive (CFRE) preferred.
EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS
- 5 years of experience in nonprofit fundraising, including proven success in grant writing, major gift solicitation, and donor stewardship.
- Demonstrated experience in managing teams and developing staff.
- Experience in overseeing communication strategies and public relations.
- Adept at using donor management systems and platforms like Bloomerang or Salesforce.
- Proven experience engaging with diverse identities, including intersecting identities of race, ethnicity, socioeconomic background and sexual orientation, gender identity, and gender expression
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
Fund Development
- Develop and implement an annual fundraising strategy, including direct mail, digital campaigns, and individual, corporate, and foundation solicitations.
- Lead the cultivation of new donors and deepen relationships with current donors to increase revenue.
- Oversee grant proposal writing, reporting, and funder communications.
- Ensure the proper stewardship of major donors, including personalized thank-you notes and recognition.
- Oversee the accurate management of donor information in the donor database.
Communications & Marketing
- Oversee and ensure the effective implementation of the agency’s communications strategy to build and maintain a positive public image.
- Collaborate with the Communications & Marketing Associate to manage content creation for newsletters, social media, and press releases.
- Supervise the development of the agency’s annual report, impact reports, and other key publications.
- Support the development and execution of Ozone House’s public relations and advocacy efforts.
Event Management
- Lead the planning and execution of annual fundraising events in collaboration with the team, ensuring they meet objectives and stay within budget.
- Provide oversight and guidance on the coordination of smaller community events and volunteer engagement.
Leadership & Strategic Planning
- Supervise the Communications and Marketing Associate and Development Associate, providing mentorship, guidance, and performance evaluations.
- Design and implement team development strategies to build a collaborative, high-performing team.
- Ensure team members receive proper training and professional development in alignment with Ozone House's mission and values.
- Monitor the development department’s budget, ensuring that income and expenditures are in line with projections.
- Work with the Executive Director to ensure fundraising goals are met and income is maximized.
- Participate in the development of Ozone House’s strategic plan and long-term vision, particularly around fundraising and resource development.
- Engage with elected officials and community leaders to advocate for the agency’s mission and programs.
