ABOUT THE ROLE
As Principal Tailings Facility Engineer you will be responsible for the integrity tailing facility(s) and governing tailings operations, construction and closure phases. You will support the ongoing implementation and requirements of the Global Industry Standard and Tailings Management. You will oversee the surface water balance, participate in mine and development waste optimization, provide technical expertise for federal and state permitting of tailings facilities, optimization of tailings closure in alignment with regulatory requirements.
Other key responsibilities include, but are not limited to :
As risk controls owner, accountable for the integrity of the tailings facility. Responsible for consulting with Engineer of Record, Designer of Record, construction, operations, planning, regulatory affairs, social performance and environment teams
Responsible for implementation of the design and accountable for the establishment of a change management system.
Responsible for the monitoring system and communication of the results to the EOR, including performance reviews
Responsible, with the EOR, for the Construction Records Report and OMS Manual.
Lead the study work on TSF and other dam facilities.
Work cross-functionally with various teams and stakeholders to ensure the TSF study work is to the required standard
Actively engage with key stakeholders such as the Site and Global Tailings Governance teams, the Independent Tailings Review Board (ITRB), and regulatory bodies.
Ensure the surface water balance is known and action improvement areas with technical services, operations, construction, and environment / permitting.
Work with technical services and operations across site to optimize waste rock storage areas
Optimize design and risk mitigation for upset tailings storage
ABOUT YOU
Bachelor's Degree in Engineering (civil, soil mechanics, geotechnical)
Desired experience 10 years with minimum of 7 years experience in the design, construction, operation or monitoring of TSF and water dams
15 years mining and leadership could be considered in lieu of Bachelor's degree.
Recognized tailings dam experience in design, construction and / or operations
Consulting background / exposure to multitude of settings / operations
Extensive knowledge of tailings storage facilities and water dams.
Understanding of technical standards and regulations
Auditing and training skills
