Shop Supervisor
Summary:
The Shop Supervisor is responsible for overseeing daily operations in the manufacturing shop, ensuring that production runs efficiently, safely, and on schedule. This role involves coordinating workflow, supervising a team of welders, fabricators, and coating specialists, and ensuring that all orders are built to the highest quality standards. The Shop Supervisor works closely with engineering, project management, and quality control teams to meet customer specifications and delivery timelines.
Essential Functions:
Promote a safe work environment and ensure all employees follow all safety policies.- Foster a positive work environment.
- Maintain a high level of product quality, instilling a strong commitment to quality in all shop employees.
- Facilitate and direct team members workflow within the shop including distributing work assignments, disseminating information, answering questions, and resolving problems within the weld shop.
- Promote and develop 5S and lean manufacturing principles on the shop floor.
- Anticipate and react to production irregularities including potential delays, material shortages and equipment breakdowns.
- Providing technical assistance to the team including development/coaching of all shop employees.
- Work with the engineering team to make process improvements including cost reduction, work standardization, workflow refinements, etc.
- Assist in accident investigations.
- Maintain fair and consistent application of all company policies and procedures.
- Actively produce product while maintaining a work/management balance, this time balance will fluctuate based upon production demands.
- Perform other tasks as directed by manager.
Position Requirements:
- Strong oral communication skills.
- Strong understanding of steel fabrication methods
- Operation of steel processing equipment including plasma table, hydraulic brake press, band saw, iron workers and plate rolls.
- Reading and interpreting blueprints.
- Prior experience with ERP systems - preferred
- Ability to lift up to 50 pounds.
- Operation of forklift and overhead cranes.
