Intern - Fabrication Department
Reports to Fabrication Supervisor
Position Overview As a summer Intern in the Fabrication Department, you will gain hands-on experience in the creation of structural steel products at P & M Steel. Under the supervision of the Fabrication Supervisor, you will have the opportunity to work with machine shop equipment, learn welding techniques, and support the fabrication process. This internship is designed to help you develop your skills in a real-world manufacturing environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist in the layout, positioning, and securing of parts and assemblies according to project specifications, applying welding techniques and understanding engineering requirements.
- Help identify and report any defective materials or questionable conditions to the Fabrication Supervisor.
- Track and report time for project costs accurately.
- Communicate progress and status updates to the Fabrication Supervisor to assist with project scheduling.
- Maintain a clean and organized work area, following prescribed safety guidelines.
- Be receptive to frequent supervision and guidance from the Fabrication Supervisor to enhance learning and development.

Working Conditions
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently exposed to fumes or
airborne particles, moving mechanical parts and vibrations. The employee is occasionally
exposed to a variety of extreme conditions from the weather. Noise level in the work
environment can be loud.
Physical Requirements
The employee is occasionally required to sit; climb or balance; and stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl.
The employee is required to be on their feet for long periods of time. The employee must
frequently lift and / or move up to 25 pounds and occasionally lift and / or move up to 50 pounds.
Hand dexterity and arm-hand steadiness. Specific vision abilities required by this job include
close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.
Expected Hours
Some flexibility in hours is allowed, but the employee must be available during the "core" work
hours of 6 : 00 a.m. to 4 : 30 p.m. and must work 36 hours each week to maintain full-time status.
Occasional requirement to work overtime hours.
