What are the responsibilities and job description for the Superintendent/SSHO position at P&S CONSTRUCTION, INC?
Primary Purpose: To supervise the day-to-day activities of the construction project, oversee the work of subcontractors employed on the project, and to supervise the labor force employed for the project, consisting of regular company personnel, and project specific/temporary personnel. To develop, monitor and implement the organization's health and safety policy; to ensure the organization is compliant with health and safety legislation; and to reduce or prevent hazards, dangers and accidents. This role not only ensures the health and safety of the workers but also of the workplace, environment and general public.
Major Duties and Responsibilities/Accountabilities:
1. Drive the speed and direction of the construction project through coordination with subcontractors, vendors, project managers, quality control managers, and site safety and health officers.
2. Maintain a positive relationship with customers, contractors, suppliers and other employees.
3. Bring the project in on time and within budget.
4. Review the job schedule and cost breakdown in an effort to develop a mutual approach to the project with the project team.
5. Uphold safety and health policies in accordance with the Accident Prevention Plan, EM385-1-1 and OSHA regulations.
6. Conduct/Document all safety orientations and weekly tool-box talks and prepare the end of the month safety check-list for requisition issuance.
7. Set up the job office and equipment trailers and see that all permits, labor notices, safety rules and regulations are posted. This includes the setup of all temporary required services (Sanitary, Power, Internet, Fencing, etc.).
8. Read, Understand and maintain a thorough knowledge of the contract documents, plans, drawings and specifications, addendums, options taken, etc.
9. Ensure that daily housekeeping practices are observed.
10. Keep up-to-date built drawings.
11. Sustain daily contact with the Project Manager and Quality Control Manager, seeking his/her assistance in the scheduling of approval, materials, equipment and subcontractors.
12. Create and maintain a three week look-ahead schedule for short-term activities within CPM schedule time frames and manage the document.
13. Inventory tools and equipment.
14. Secure project at all times and at end of each workday.
15. Complete detailed daily reports and post them to the company intranet.
16. Post pictures of job site twice weekly.
17. Coordinate the LEED implementation for the necessary field requirements with the Quality Control Manager, the Project LEED Manager and the subcontractors.
18. Inspect the workplace for potential hazards, identify potential hazards and assess the risk and report and correct potential hazards.
19. Conduct investigations by responding to accidents and emergencies.
20. Ensure the company is compliant with legislative and regulatory necessities including OSHA and EM 385 1-1 requirements.
21. Conduct training with on-site staff and subcontractors to make sure they are aware of regulations and procedures while also providing guidance.
22. Prepare and review Accident Prevention Plans and Activity Hazard Analysis.
23. Perform daily safety inspections and associated reports.
24. Complete daily equipment inspections.
25. Communicate effectively with Project Superintendent, Quality Control Manager, Government Representatives, OSHA and other Agencies, as well as vendors/subcontractors.
26. Maintain thorough safety records and manage all required reporting.
27. Complete all other duties as assigned.
