P2S is seeking a Division of the State Architect (DSA) Construction Inspector who will be responsible for monitoring and inspecting the construction of K–12 schools, community colleges, state essential service buildings, and other state-funded construction projects (i.e., California Courts, California State University, University of California). Inspector will ensure compliance with contract documents, DSA requirements and regulations, project standards, and all Federal, State, and Local regulations. Inspector will report to our client or construction inspection lead on all aspects of the contractor’s daily performance and quality. This position will be based from our Long Beach, CA office.
Responsibilities:
- Perform continuous inspection of wood frame, reinforced concrete, gunite, masonry, and structural steel construction for compliance with plans, specifications, contract documents, and all applicable State and local building codes, ordinances, and regulations.
- Analyze plans, specifications, and contract documents and interpret or secure interpretation of plans and specifications for contractors and subcontractors.
- Notify architects, engineers, and project teams of material or work quality that does not meet the approved contract documents' requirements or applicable codes.
- Coordinate and monitor the on and off-site work of specialized inspectors and materials testing laboratories, including the document control of all issued reports.
- Maintain daily and semi-monthly reports of construction progress, site activity, and events.
- Report all discrepancies requiring corrective action; issue “Non-Conformance” Report to contractors if necessary.
- Verify all approved scope change required by State and Local authorities and the owners.
- Represent the Owner on construction sites, in contacts with contractors, architects, and engineers.
- Attend pre-construction conferences as well as any weekly meetings
- Develop the “punch list” items and follow-up with corrective measures.
- Maintain a separate set of “as-builts” and coordinate the preparation and submittal of as-built plans upon project completion.
- Verify, complete and submit reports to DSA indicating the work has been performed in compliance with the approved plans and specification
- Perform other job responsibilities as assigned.
Requirements:

- Thorough understanding of the California Code of Regulations, Title 24, and applicable ordinances and regulations related to California public school construction and safety.
- Working knowledge of DSA issued publications (i.e., Bulletins, Guidelines, and Interpretation of Regulations)
- Working knowledge of Greenbook and Storm Water Pollution Prevention Plan (SWPPP).
- Physical Demands – While performing this position's duties, an individual must bend, stoop, stand for long periods, walk on uneven surfaces, and work in adverse weather conditions (i.e., hot and cold climates) for the entire workday.
Minimum Qualifications:
- AA in Construction Inspection Technology, Architecture, Construction Management, Business Administration, or equivalent experience.
- DSA (Division of the State Architect) Class 1, 2, and 3 General Inspector Certification.
- Additional certifications from the Division of State Architect (DSA) Special Inspection (i.e., masonry, shotcrete, glulam) preferred but not required.
- DSA Certified Access Specialist (CASp) preferred but not required.
- Possession of valid certification International Code Council (ICC) certifications California Commercial Building Inspector, Mechanical, Electrical, Plumbing, Fire Alarm).
- Prior experience with state-funded school construction projects preferred.
- AIA or PE preferred but not required.
