The PA AAP is seeking a highly motivated self-starter with strong organizational and communication skills to serve as Advocacy and Communications Coordinator.

The Advocacy and Communications Coordinator will play a pivotal role in supporting the organization’s advocacy efforts and communication strategies. This position is responsible for developing and executing issue campaigns, providing public relations support, creating content for various communication channels, and ensuring that key messages are effectively communicated to internal and external stakeholders.

Following an introductory/probationary period, this is a hybrid work arrangement with 40% on-site at our Chapter headquarter office in King of Prussia, PA, and 60% remote from home.

Key Responsibilities:

Advocacy Support:

  • Assist in the development and implementation of advocacy campaigns that promote the organization's mission, goals, and policy objectives.
  • Monitor and track legislation and provide legislation summaries and analyses to chapter leadership.
  • Coordinate advocacy initiatives, including letter-writing campaigns, drafting policy talking points for legislative visits, and drafting remarks for legislative committee meetings
  • Build and maintain relationships with PA AAP members and community partners to advance the organization’s advocacy priorities.
  • Coordinate updates to PA AAP’s Blueprint for Children

Develop High-Impact Member Communications:

  • Create engaging content for press releases, newsletters, website, social media, and other communication materials.
  • Make regular updates to PA AAP’s website.
  • Serve as a contact for media inquiries, drafting talking points and facilitating interviews as needed.
  • Manage the organization’s social media accounts, creating regular content and monitoring engagement to maximize visibility and impact.

Member and Stakeholder Engagement:

  • Respond to member inquiries, supporting recruitment and retention efforts along with charitable appeals.
  • Provide staff support to PA AAP’s issue-oriented committees, shepherding goals related to policy, resource-development, education and coalition-building.
  • Coordinate with partner organizations, coalitions, and community groups to amplify advocacy efforts and share resources.
  • Develop and maintain positive relationships with policymakers and other stakeholders.

Event Planning and Coordination:

  • Assist with organizing advocacy events, press conferences, and educational events for PA AAP members
  • Represent the organization at key events and public forums when needed, promoting the organization's positions and building relationships.
  • Plan and coordinate other special projects as requested by the Executive Director.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in communications, public health, public relations, social science, public policy or a related field.
  • Minimum of 2 years of experience in communications, advocacy, or public relations preferred.
  • Proficiency in standard office equipment, MS Office programs/software, and virtual meeting platforms
  • Strong understanding of advocacy strategies, legislative research, and media relations.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to tailor messages to different audiences.
  • Proficient in social media platforms, content management systems, and basic graphic design tools.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and manage multiple priorities.
  • Strong organization, time management, and critical thinking skills required, including strong writing and proofreading skills.
  • Knowledge of public health is a plus.
  • Ability to work occasional weekends and regular evenings for meetings and events
  • Valid driver’s license and access to a reliable vehicle is required for travel in Pennsylvania.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $22.00 - $25.00 per hour
