Position Summary:
The cost accountant supports the plant controller and has broad responsibilities for all financial and accounting processes. This position acts as a key member of the finance / accounting team at the site, assisting in several finance areas such as month-end close, financial forecasting, reporting, and analysis. Manages and maintains the cost accounting system and is responsible for all cost of goods sold reporting. Responsible for providing insight and analysis of financial operating results. Acts as a consultant to teams, leaders, and other members of the finance and operations teams.
Essential Functions:
1. Responsible for maintaining and optimizing the standard costing and inventory system. Includes cost of goods sold accuracy, inventory value and quantity accuracy, bill of material and routing review, work order variance review, resolving system integrity issues, and accurate reporting.
2. Assist in the month-end closing process, prepare journal entries and account reconciliations, financial statement review and variance analysis.
3. Assist in preparation and review of financial justifications for plant capital projects. Track capital project spending, timing and cost impact against project plan, forecasts and budget to understand and report variances. Coordinate periodic fixed asset physical inventory per company policies
4. Prepare periodic financial control reports such as inventory reports, scrap accounting, etc. to help monitor plant performance.
5. Work with overall team as needed to resolve issues with accounts payable and accounts receivable.
6. Participate in continuous improvement activities across the entire operation. Be a key player in helping the manufacturing teams increase inventory turns, improve gross margin, and improve inventory accuracy.
7. Assist the controller with standard cost updates, inventory valuation, and annual re-costing processes. Support the annual physical inventory audit and cycle count programs.
8. Accountable for Sarbanes-Oxley compliance in assigned area. Responsible for design and operating effectiveness of internal controls, including a self-assessment and report to management.
9. Ad hoc financial analysis as required.
Required Education and/or Experience:
1. Bachelor’s degree in accounting or finance.
2. Five or more years of accounting or finance experience in a fast-paced manufacturing organization and a working knowledge of US GAAP.
3. Experience with a fully integrated ERP system, particularly in cost accounting.
Required Qualifications:
1. This position is based in Allentown, PA. Daily on-site attendance is required, this is not a remote position.
2. Must have disciplined work ethic and attention to detail while possessing strong analytical and organizational skills.
3. Ability to work with minimal supervision, follow instructions, and solve problems independently.
4. High level of proficiency in Microsoft Office products, particularly Excel.
5. Above average written and oral communications skills in English.
