Requisition Summary
Plans, develops and administers traffic programs and activities to maintain and improve transportation services for the Peterbilt Motors Denton TX production facility.
Job Functions / Responsibilities
- Direct responsibility for all inbound and outbound freight, all modes (truckload, LTL, intermodal, parcel and airfreight) at Peterbilt Motors Denton Texas facility and manufacturing support facilities
- Responsible for carrier relationship at the local level, including monitoring carrier equipment pool, operational performance and ensuring conformity to established quality, delivery, and safety standards
- Monitor daily cross-border shipments including customs brokerage activity for Peterbilt related shipments; engage and escalate as necessary
- Collaborate with Materials Project Management and Inventory Control Management to identify, assess, and implement transportation strategies that enhance departmental and plant performance objectives including premium and inbound freight costs, quality, and safety standards
- Responsible for maintaining Trailer Tracking accuracy, shuttling of trailers/freight between multiple lots to support production receiving, including remote lots and warehouses
- Directly responsible for the truck release process with Active USA, ensuring timely and accurate pickup of units for delivery to PDI, dealer, or customer locations and initiation of invoicing
- Serve as liaison between transportation logistics and other departments including Maintenance, Division Sales, Marketing, Engineering, providing transportation support as needed
- Evaluate routes and shipment frequencies for optimal efficiencies and trailer utilization, including returnable container optimization
- Responsible for filing and managing loss, damage, and shortage claims with carriers as needed. Accountable for maintaining/meeting appropriate metrics related to on-time performance,
- Monitor payment of carrier invoices and assist with resolution of carrier/freight provider billing issues; evaluation of company traffic data (freight bills payment and reconciliation)
- Establishes traffic policies and procedures, providing published guidelines to divisions and plants
- Collaborate with suppliers, carriers and management to resolve disputes over expediting, overtime, or other charges
- Assists in developing logistics programs and other improvement actions using Lean/Six Sigma methodologies
- Supervises Logistics/Traffic Planners, including performance evaluations
- Performs other related duties as assigned
Skills / Competencies
- 5 years related experience in transportation or traffic management.
- Bachelor’s degree required
- Masters Preferred
- Working knowledge of Six Sigma/Lean tools and processes.
- Goal oriented with proven organizational, communication, negotiation, conflict management, and cost control skills.
- Ability to handle multiple priorities and work well under pressure, in a fast-paced environment, while meeting deadlines.
- Proficient in MS Office Suite, Mainframe AS400 and SAP experience a plus.
- Must be able to transact and analyze work with an accurate detailed approach, good organization and clear communication.
- Willingness to work extended hours when required to resolve freight-related emergencies.
