We are seeking a detail-oriented and proactive Compliance Specialist to join our team and assist in the development, implementation, and maintenance of critical compliance processes. In this role, you will support the Compliance Improvement Plan (CIP), Risk Assessment process, and monitoring of Corrective Action Plans to ensure organizational adherence to CMS and State regulations.

Your responsibilities will include conducting internal audits, managing compliance tasks via the compliance tracking dashboard, and overseeing exclusion and preclusion screenings for employees, providers, and vendors. You will play a key role in providing HIPAA and compliance education to employees, preparing documentation for audits and investigations, and tracking regulatory submissions for corrective action.

Specifications
Education: A High School diploma or GED is required. An Associate's or Bachelor's degree in healthcare, criminal justice, or social services is preferred, or an equivalent combination of experience and education.
Experience: A minimum of one (1) year of prior experience in healthcare compliance or quality-related roles. Relevant compliance, quality, legal, or privacy experience or coursework in a healthcare setting is highly desirable. Experience with auditing, monitoring, investigations, and/or training is a plus.
Number/Type of Employees Supervised: None
Licensure, Registry, or Certification Required: Valid MI Driver’s License required. A Certificate in Healthcare Compliance (CHC) is preferred.
Special Training: Only acts within scope of practice. Meets a standardized set of orientation and/or individual competencies for the specific position description established by PACE of Southwest Michigan and approved by CMS before working independently.
Immunizations: Must be medically cleared for communicable diseases and have all immunizations up to date before engaging in direct participant contact.
Specific Requirements and Considerations: May be subject to exposure and handling of infectious waste, diseases, conditions, or hazardous chemicals, etc., including potential exposure to TB, AIDS, and/or Hepatitis B.
Ages of Patients Rendered Care: Adult, Geriatric

Key Responsibilities

  • Assists in the development, implementation, education, and maintenance of the Compliance Improvement Plan (CIP), Risk Assessment process, and monitoring of Corrective Action Plans.
  • Performs various internal audits to ensure compliance with CMS and State regulations.
  • Manages and completes compliance tasks on the compliance dashboard to support adherence to organizational, CMS, and State guidelines and regulations.
  • Ensures compliance by monitoring and tracking exclusion and preclusion screenings for employees, external providers, and vendors.
  • Provides HIPAA and compliance education to PACE employees in partnership with the Compliance Officer.
  • Prepares and compiles documentation for audits, investigations, and training while ensuring proper tracking of changes.
  • Monitors and tracks critical regulatory submissions for organizational corrective actions.
  • Gathers and organizes necessary data for submission to regulatory agencies.
  • Reviews and modifies internal policies and procedures as directed by the Compliance Officer.
  • Proactively creates and sends compliance emails and notices to mitigate risk and ensure that the organization is well-informed of compliance topics and projects.
  • Provides guidance to staff on privacy complaints, violations, and hotline reports.
  • Advises the Compliance Officer of discovered and reported incidents of non-compliance, monitors the Compliance hotline, and assists with investigations.
  • Researches and stays updated on current and upcoming laws and statutes to ensure compliance.
  • Provides coverage for the Compliance Department in the absence of the Compliance Officer.
  • Adheres to all established PACE of Southwest Michigan policies, rules, and regulations, as well as federal and state regulations that govern the operations of the PACE organization.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.
