Job Overview
The Outside Parts Sales Representative is responsible for generating sales and maintaining relationships with customers in the designated sales territory. This role involves promoting and selling parts and equipment to new and existing customers, ensuring customer satisfaction, and driving revenue growth. The ideal candidate will have a strong understanding of parts and products, excellent customer service skills, and the ability to work independently while meeting sales targets.
Responsibilities and Duties
- Sales Generation: Identify and pursue new sales opportunities by prospecting and cold-calling potential customers in your assigned territory.
- Customer Relationships: Develop and maintain strong, long-term relationships with current and potential customers, ensuring repeat business and customer loyalty.
- Product Knowledge: Stay up to date with the company's parts inventory, new products, and industry trends. Provide expert advice to customers on parts, products, and solutions to meet their needs.
- Sales Presentations: Conduct in-person meetings, product demonstrations, and presentations with customers to promote parts sales and build rapport.
- Quote Preparation: Provide quotes for parts and services, negotiate prices, and close sales with customers. Ensure all quotes are accurate and competitive.
- Order Management: Coordinate with the parts department to process orders, ensure accurate delivery, and follow up with customers to ensure satisfaction.
- Territory Management: Regularly visit existing customers and target potential customers to ensure maximum market coverage and sales potential in your assigned territory.
- Sales Targets: Meet or exceed established sales goals and revenue targets for parts sales.
- Customer Service: Address customer inquiries, complaints, and concerns promptly and professionally, ensuring high levels of customer satisfaction.
- Market Research: Monitor competitor activity and market trends, adjusting sales strategies as needed to maintain a competitive advantage.
- Reporting & Documentation: Maintain accurate records of sales activities, customer interactions, and inventory levels. Provide regular reports to management on sales performance and market conditions.
- Collaboration: Work closely with the internal parts and service teams to ensure customer needs are met and to support company objectives.
Skills and Qualifications
- Education: High school diploma or equivalent required. A college degree in business, sales, or a related field is a plus.
- Experience: Minimum of 2 years of outside sales experience, preferably in the automotive, heavy equipment, or parts industry.
- Knowledge: Strong knowledge of parts, products, and the industry. Previous experience selling parts is highly preferred.
- Sales Skills: Proven ability to generate leads, close sales, and achieve sales targets.
- Customer Service: Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to build relationships and resolve customer issues effectively.
- Technical Skills: Familiarity with parts catalog systems, CRM software, and basic office applications (e.g., Microsoft Office).
- Self-Motivated: Ability to work independently, manage a sales territory, and prioritize tasks.
- Negotiation Skills: Strong negotiation and persuasion skills with the ability to handle pricing discussions and objections.
- Driving: Valid driver’s license with a clean driving record (travel within territory is required).
- Previous experience in the parts sales industry or similar field (automotive, heavy machinery, or industrial equipment).
- Familiarity with the local market and customer base.
- Sales training or certifications related to outside sales or parts sales.
Physical Requirements
- Ability to lift and carry parts and equipment up to [insert weight, e.g., 40 lbs] when necessary.
- Must be able to drive a company vehicle to visit customers and attend meetings.
