Job Overview
Pace Transportation is seeking skilled and detail-oriented Upfitter Technicians to join our team at our new Gary, IN facility. As an Upfitter Technician, you will be responsible for installing, assembling, and customizing components on new and existing trailers, trucks, and other heavy-duty vehicles to meet customer specifications. This role is critical in ensuring quality, safety, and efficiency in vehicle modifications and enhancements.
Responsibilities and Duties
- Install and modify truck and trailer components, including liftgates, toolboxes, hydraulic systems, lighting, and other specialty equipment.
- Read and interpret work orders, blueprints, and technical drawings to perform accurate installations.
- Use hand and power tools to complete upfitting tasks safely and efficiently.
- Conduct quality inspections to ensure all work meets company and industry standards.
- Perform troubleshooting and repairs on upfit installations as needed.
- Collaborate with engineering, production, and sales teams to meet customer specifications and deadlines.
- Maintain a clean and organized work environment, following all safety protocols and procedures.
- Document completed work and maintain accurate records of installations and modifications.
Skills and Qualifications
- Previous experience in upfitting, vehicle assembly, fabrication, or a related mechanical trade preferred.
- Proficiency with hand and power tools, welding experience is a plus.
- Ability to read and understand technical diagrams, schematics, and instructions.
- Strong attention to detail and ability to work independently or as part of a team.
- Basic electrical and hydraulic system knowledge is a plus.
- Physical ability to lift up to 50 lbs and work in various positions, including standing, bending, and kneeling.
- High school diploma or equivalent; vocational or technical training is a plus.
Physical Requirements:
- Must be able to lift/carry 30lbs frequently.
- Must be able to lift/carry 50lbs occasionally.
- Must be able to lift/carry 100lbs during team lifts infrequently.
