Job Summary :
We are seeking a Materials Test Engineer to support Materials Testing & Characterization at Lucid. The ideal candidate exhibits a can-do attitude and approaches his or her work with vigor and determination. Candidates will be expected to demonstrate excellence in their respective field(s), possess the ability to learn quickly, and excel within a fast-paced environment. As a Materials Test Engineer, you will be responsible for conducting a wide range of materials testing and failure analysis. You will apply your knowledge and expertise to characterize materials, analyze failure modes, and ensure our products meet high standards for quality and performance. This role involves working closely with cross-functional teams to support R&D, product development, and production processes.
The Role :
Perform materials testing and characterization to support Lucid Engineering.
Analyze test results, generate detailed reports, and provide recommendations for material selection, design improvements, and process enhancements.
Drive advancements in materials test & characterization capabilities at Lucid.
Author material test procedures and specifications.
Conduct failure analysis investigations to identify the root cause for engineering issues across all Lucid Programs.
Provide guidance to cross-functional teams on appropriate test methodologies and procedures to solve problems.
Work closely with R&D, CAE, production, and quality assurance teams to provide testing support for new product development, process optimization, and troubleshooting.
Qualifications :
Minimum 1 year of experience as a materials or materials test engineer, or 16 months as a materials engineering (or related field) intern working in a laboratory environment.
Understanding of process-structure-property relationships in metallic materials.
In-depth understanding of material property evaluations using a first principles approach.
Expertise in uniaxial tensile testing, 3-point bend testing, compression testing, microhardness testing, cross-sectioning, mounting / polishing, and optical microscopy.
Competence in Scanning Electron Microscopy (SEM) including Energy-dispersive X-ray spectroscopy (EDX), microstructure analysis, and practical fractography.
Knowledge of Differential Mechanical Analysis (DMA), Differential Scanning Calorimetry (DSC), Thermogravimetric Analysis (TGA), Fourier Transform Infrared Spectroscopy (FTIR), and fatigue testing.
Knowledge of environmental testing such as humidity, UV exposure, and corrosion is a plus.
Knowledge of spot weld characterization is a plus.
Education :
BS in Materials / Metallurgical Engineering or other relevant fields.
Preferred :
MS in Materials / Metallurgical Engineering.
Experience with Catia V5 / V6 is preferred but not essential.
