The Financial Administrative Representative facilitates patient access to care at PIH Health facilities.
Responsibilities include patient registration, pre-registration, insurance verification, and securing financial liability (copayments, coinsurance, and deductibles).
The role requires efficiency, accuracy, and excellent customer service to meet the needs of patients, physicians, and the hospital.
Required Qualifications :
Experience :
2 years of front office, medical billing, or hospital registration / admitting experience (registration experience required).
2 years of insurance verification and / or medical / hospital billing experience.
Education :
High school diploma or equivalent.
Knowledge & Skills :
Familiarity with eligibility requirements for Medi-Cal, Medicare, Covered California, Cobra, Hospital Presumptive Eligibility Program, limited benefit plans, VVC, and Uncompensated Care Programs.
Understanding of IPA and EMTALA regulations.
Strong adherence to HIPAA laws.
Proficiency in medical terminology.
Typing speed of 45 WPM (required).
Certifications :
Non-Violent Crisis Intervention (NCI) Certification (within 3 months of hire).
LA City Fire Card (within 6 months of employment, PIHGS only).
Preferred Qualifications
Continuing education in Finance, Accounting, or Business Administration.
Bilingual (English / Spanish preferred)
Productivity Expectations
Complete a minimum of 20-30 patient registrations per 8-hour shift.
Responsibilities include scanning documents, verifying insurance, and securing upfront collections.
Ensure patients are medically screened and stabilized before discussing financial liability or obtaining consent.
Additional Skills Required
Strong written and verbal communication skills to interact with patients, guarantors, insurance companies, and physicians.
Attention to detail with strong English spelling, reading, and mathematical skills.
Ability to learn quickly, follow instructions, and adapt to policies.
Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, and navigating multiple computer screens efficiently.
Ability to multi-task in a high-pressure, fast-paced environment.
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
Excellent customer service and phone skills in a medical setting.
Ability to travel to off-site locations (Outpatient only).
