What are the responsibilities and job description for the Indiana Pacers Performance Data Analyst position at Pacers Sports & Entertainment?
The Performance Data Analyst reports to the Director of Performance & Sports Science and is responsible for collecting, analyzing, visualizing, and reporting biometric and performance data from practice and training sessions to maintain and improve load monitoring and readiness strategies. The Performance Data Analyst will work directly with the Senior Director of Basketball Analytics and Sports Medicine Services team to assist with the application of sports science in the fields of medical care, strength and conditioning, performance, and player development.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Assist with data collection, maintenance, preparation and analysis.
- Manage fitness testing, player health, injury and musculoskeletal screening, and player tracking data and storage.
- Analyze and produce clear and compelling reports for dissemination to performance staff, coaches, and player development staff.
- Conduct ad-hoc analyses on long-term data for trends on player progress and physical performance.
- Maintain and extend our existing performance analytics infrastructure.
- Collaborate on team projects and work autonomously on individual work.
- Communicate data analysis to the Director of Performance & Sports Science for daily/weekly planning.
- Keep up to date with current analytical and data visualization technologies and techniques.
- Other duties and projects as assigned.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

- Bachelor’s Degree in a related quantitative (Math, Statistics, Operations Research, etc.) or scientific field (Biology, Physics, Mechanical or Bioengineering, etc.), or equivalent practical experience.
- Demonstrated skills with data management and analytics software (R or Python required).
- Experience with statistical analysis techniques (eg, regression/modeling, machine learning, clustering, hypothesis testing, categorical data analysis), commonly used statistics packages, data visualization, data collection methods, and familiarity with GPS/accelerometry analysis.
- Foundational knowledge of human anatomy, biomechanics, principles of exercise science, kinesiology, and/or exercise physiology.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills who can critically listen and work with others.

- COMPUTER SKILLS: Employee should have a strong knowledge of R or Python, Microsoft PowerBI, Microsoft Windows, MS Office, and the Internet as well as the ability to a learn and utilize new computer programs quickly and efficiently.
- REASONING ABILITY: Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret directions and technical diagrams.
- PROBLEM SOLVING REQUIREMENTS: Employee must deal with various internal and external constituents to solve problems and deliver projects on time with accuracy, professionalism and with outstanding customer service.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- Master’s or Doctoral Degree in a related quantitative (Math, Statistics, Operations Research, etc.) or scientific field (Biology, Physics, Exercise Science/Physiology, Kinesiology, Mechanical or Bioengineering, etc).
- Experience working with and manipulating large datasets.
- Experience with data visualization and reporting (PowerBI is preferred).
- Experience working with load monitoring data in a team-sports setting (eg, Kinexon preferred, Catapult, Zephyr, Polar, etc.).
- Experience with performance tracking technology (eg, VBT, force plates, 3D motion capture, Delos, InBody etc.).
- Interest in basketball and familiarity with basketball terminology.
