Job Description:
Verifies and keeps records on outgoing shipments and prepares items for shipment: Compares identifying information and counts, weighs, or measures items of outgoing shipments to verify information against bills of lading, invoices, orders, or other records. Inspect, count, and pack outgoing material.
- Determines method of shipment, utilizing knowledge of shipping procedures, routes, and rates.
- Affixes shipping labels on packed cartons or stencils identifying shipping information on cartons, using stenciling equipment.
- Posts weights and shipping charges, and affixes postage.
- Examines outgoing shipments to ensure shipments meet specifications.
- Maintains inventory of shipping materials and supplies.
- May operate tier-lift truck or use handtruck to move, convey, or hoist shipments from shipping-and-receiving platform to storage or work area.
- May direct others in preparing outgoing and receiving incoming shipments.
- May perform only shipping or receiving activities and be known as Shipping Clerk or Shipping Coordinator.
Education and Experience:
- Minimum of a high school education and 3 years of factory related leadership experience in shipping and receiving is helpful.
- Required to read and write English, follow verbal instructions and use simple math.
- Must have a valid driver’s license and a good driving record.
Job Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
- Experience with UPS Ship-Exec, FedEx, LTL, International preferred, but not mandatory.
- Strong Computer knowledge.
- High attention to detail a must.
- Ability to perform but not limited to the following tasks, be familiar with and able to interpret packing slips, enter into the computer the correct information, to acknowledge receipt of the goods into the purchase order and processing database.
- Must be able to fill out bills of lading and be familiar with various forms that are used and required by the major freight carriers.
- Must be capable of estimating weight, and use that information to calculate the cost of shipping.
- Must be familiar with proper packaging methods and able to interpret visual aids used to convey specific packaging requirements.
- Must be able to lift 50 lbs.
