What are the responsibilities and job description for the Quality Control Lead position at Pacific Choice Brands, Inc.?
The QA Lead will be responsible for process monitoring, directing and coordinating QA Lab Technicians on multiple production lines, food safety and quality inspections, compliance control, and document review.
No employee Authority- Responsible to communicate employees issues to Supervisor.
Key Job Duties
- When not performing scheduled tests/inspections, continuously audit production lines for compliance with good manufacturing practices and food safety programs.
- Train, schedule, assist and oversee QA lab technicians.
- Conduct routine and non-routine inspection/analysis of in-process materials, raw materials, manufacturing equipment, and finished goods.
- Calibrate, verify proper operation, maintain, and troubleshoot laboratory equipment.
- Compile laboratory test data, perform appropriate analysis, and file data, charts, and reports.
- Review and prepare production paperwork as needed for state inspector evaluation.
- Complete and maintain documentation needed to support testing procedures including but not limited to calibration logbooks and chemical/lab supply inventory records.
- Receive and store lab supplies.
- Review analytical methods and procedures to recommend how they might be improved.
- Identify quality issues, recommend solutions and supervise implementation of new methods.
- Interpret test results, compare them to established specifications and control limits, and make decisions based on data for disposition of finished products, work in progress or ingredients.
- Communicate findings and decisions to QA Management in a timely manner.
- Monitor testing activities to ensure that all tests are performed according to established item specifications, standard test methods, or protocols.
- Participate in out-of-specification and failure investigations using analytical skills to determine root cause and provide feedback and recommendations to QA and Production Managers.
- Provide assistance to QA Managers and Production Managers in research and development, production technology, and quality control.
- Review, verify and maintain daily QA records.
- Oversee the product or ingredient hold process and maintain the QA Hold Log
- Issue COAs as needed
- Keep labs organized and clean
- Assist with technical services work
- Conduct pre-op and gather and analyze data
- Cover QA Receiving and QA Tech position as needed
- Other duties may be assigned

Education
High School Diploma or equivalent or some college is preferred*
Necessary Skills and Experience
- Strong knowledge of all food safety related programs (HACCP, FSP, GMP, Allergens, SOPs, Pre-Op, prerequisite programs)
- Basic knowledge in Excel, Word, Access, Outlook and Windows OS
- Ability to adhere to standard laboratory protocols and test methods
- Familiarity with use of lab equipment and chemicals
- Ability to train and guide others
- Ability to work in a group setting and collaborate with others on duties and schedules
- Good communication skills, both verbal and written
- Ability to work with limited direction; self motivated
- Read and write in English
- Food plant sanitation knowledge is preferred
- Experience with BRC or other GFSI audit is preferred
Work Environment
This job requires working in an open material-moving equipment. Includes exposure to sounds and noise level that are distracting or uncomfortable. Requires working in a very hot (above 90 degrees F) or very cold (below 32 degrees F) temperatures. Requires working in extremely bright lighting conditions. Requires working indoors in non-controlled environmental conditions. Job tasks are performed in close physical proximity to other people.
Physical Demands:
Standing for long periods of time. The individual should have the ability to stand or walk for the duration of the shift (up to 12 hours). Must be able to lift 50lbs periodically. Requires sitting, bending, twisting, walking, repetitive movement, climbing stairs, and standing, using hands to manipulate/control/inspect objects, tools or controls throughout the shift. Requires exposure to hazardous equipment.
