Pacific Coast Producers (PCP), a growing agricultural cooperative with food production facilities across the West Coast, is seeking a Controls Technician II to join its team at its facility in Salem, OR. Our Salem facility produces maraschino cherries and other cherry products in various styles, colors and flavors and employs between 70-100 employees.
Pay Rate: $30.58 per hour, increasing to $31.80 per hour effective May 1, 2025. This is an intermediate-level position designed for growth into a journeyperson-level role within PCP. This position is also a part of a seniority based collective bargaining unit and requires work on various shifts with potential for overtime during the year.
The Controls Technician 2 will perform maintenance, repair, design, installation and/or modification of the plant’s control network and control/electrical systems. Position will assume responsibility through training under the maintenance manager for the efficient operation, maintenance, repair, and safety of all plant instruments, controls, PLC/HMI programming, electrical circuits, plant floor networking, and related equipment.
Primary job duties would include:
- Troubleshooting, calibration and installation of electronic, pneumatic, and mechanical components, programmable logic controllers, printers, level and temperature devices, control valves, chart recorders and similar components, and other technology and equipment.
- Assist in complex troubleshooting and control strategy.
- Read blueprints, charts, sketches and operating instructions to troubleshoot/repair equipment.
- Maintain calibration and maintenance records, inventory needed parts and components.
- Responsible for completing layouts and assigned work, with supervision. Must also be able to requisition necessary equipment or components for aforementioned work and layouts.
- Observe, support, and enforce all regulatory standards; Company safety, food safety, quality initiatives and standards including housekeeping of personal storage areas and toolbox and follow lockout tagout principles.
- Assist the maintenance team in other mechanical repairs when necessary.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Must have completed a two-year program relative to this field (instrumentation/controls, electrical); or comparable work experience, plus one year of formal training in this area.
- Must possess a fundamental understanding of instruments, controls, PLC/HMI programming, electrical circuits, and related equipment, which may be evaluated by passing assessments.
- PLC and HMI troubleshooting skills; including a minimum of minor logic editing skills.
- Must have understanding of plant floor hardware and software, as well as networking and domain structure admin.
- Must have understanding of SQL server development and administration.
- Process control systems trouble shooting skills.
- AutoCAD experience for creating electrical drawings.
- Must have the ability to work independently and in a team environment, performing related maintenance, repair, planning, and design.
- Must be able to interpret and develop electrical one line and logic schematics, along with P&ID drawings, and process flow drawings.
