Position Overview :
We are seeking a highly skilled and detail-oriented pharmacist to join our team as a Compounding Pharmacist. The successful candidate will be responsible for compounding a variety of medications, including sterile, non-sterile, and hazardous preparations, in accordance with regulatory standards and best practices. This role requires a strong understanding of pharmaceutical compounding techniques, a commitment to quality and safety, and the ability to work collaboratively with other healthcare professionals.
Responsibilities :
- Compounding Medications :
- Prepare sterile medications, including injectables, ophthalmic solutions, and intravenous admixtures, using aseptic technique in a cleanroom environment.
- Compound non-sterile medications, such as creams, ointments, capsules, and suppositories, adhering to established compounding procedures and quality standards.
- Handle hazardous medications safely and in accordance with USP
guidelines, including proper containment, labeling, and disposal practices.
Quality Assurance :Perform quality control checks throughout the compounding process to ensure accuracy, sterility, potency, and stability of compounded medications.Monitor environmental conditions in the compounding area and participate in routine cleaning, maintenance, and calibration of equipment.Document all compounding activities accurately and maintain comprehensive records in accordance with regulatory requirements.Regulatory Compliance :Stay current with federal, state, and local regulations governing compounding practices, including USP standards, FDA guidelines, and state pharmacy laws.Implement and maintain policies and procedures to ensure compliance with regulatory requirements and accreditation standards.Participate in inspections, audits, and quality assurance programs to uphold pharmacy licensure and accreditation.Patient Care and Education :Collaborate with prescribers and healthcare providers to develop customized medication solutions that meet the unique needs of individual patients.Provide counseling and education to patients on proper medication use, administration techniques, potential side effects, and storage requirements.Serve as a resource to healthcare professionals and patients regarding compounded medications, therapeutic alternatives, and medication safety.Team Collaboration :Work closely with pharmacy technicians, pharmacists, and other healthcare professionals to coordinate compounding activities, prioritize workload, and ensure efficient operations.Foster a collaborative and supportive work environment focused on teamwork, communication, and continuous improvement.Participate in staff training, mentoring, and professional development activities to enhance compounding skills and knowledge.Qualifications :
Doctor of Pharmacy (Pharm.D.) degree from an accredited pharmacy program.Active pharmacist license in good standing with the state board of pharmacy.Completion of specialized training or certification in sterile compounding (e.g., ASHP Sterile Compounding Certificate) preferred.Experience in pharmaceutical compounding is preferred in a sterile compounding environment, but not required.Strong understanding of compounding principles, techniques, and regulations, including USPand FDA guidelines.
Excellent attention to detail, organizational skills, and ability to prioritize tasks in a fast-paced environment.Effective communication skills and ability to collaborate with multidisciplinary teams.Commitment to quality, safety, and continuous improvement in compounding practices.Working Conditions :
The role involves working in a cleanroom environment, with exposure to hazardous medications and potential allergens.May require standing for extended periods and lifting / moving heavy objects (up to 50 pounds).Flexible schedule may be required to accommodate compounding needs and operational demands, including early morning shift, but NO evenings, weekends, and holidays.Benefits :
